• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

If it doesn't have the logo, there's nothing "fake" about it – it's just not a Kenwood antenna.

The fakes usually have the logo/brand name on them, too. :) However, I think some of those could even be "legit" product that either got "lost" on its way into new radio boxes or were pulled out and replaced with a different antenna, which accounts for some having the same translucent bags we see in new radio boxes instead of the white-card retail packaging.

Found a discussion of color codes for KW HT antennas UHF, red, white and green. Seems the grooves near the tip and under the bottom are color coded for the different freq ranges. Mine has no coloring at all. Looks like it may be a new ant?

Perhaps the dealer where you got it from took the Kenwood antenna out of the box to sell to a client who needed it asap to fulfill his order of many antennas.

The dealer then went ahead and accidentally put in the lower tier non oem antenna into the box.

I remember working in a mom and pop radio shop and I would do that all the time when inventory was back ordered or we didnt have spare parts on hand-this of course was mostly for antennas and belt clips. Sometimes It got to a point where a few times i even cannabalized new radio for its internal components- ie the infamous volume pot and fragile housings of the nx320 series. When the new components arrived id rebuild the radio to new. We then backed that same radio with additional warranty or minor discount with disclaimer- due to it being canabalized.

Fun times.

Back in 2011/2012 I purchased a bunch of Kenwood radios for work. All the antennas were unmarked, but had the distinctive 2 color bands at the top of the antenna. No "Kenwood" anywhere on the antenna itself.

A year or two after that, I purchased more radios, and the antennas were all different. No more color stripes on the antennas, but they all had "Kenwood" molded into the base and a colored insert around the SMA connector on the underside.

Ever since then, all the Kenwood radios I've purchased have all had "Kenwood" molded into the base of the antenna and the colored insert. That's been many different models and different bands.
