The chase started in Reno County around 1:20 or so as I missed the beginning of it while at lunch. The suspect drove his vehicle (a Honda Accord) into the river east of Kinsley around 2:35 (~110+ miles in a little over an hour...) He bailed and fled on foot to a wooded area. The aircraft was able to pick him out (on FLIR I presume) "like a bonfire at midnight" was mentioned. He was spotted laying on his back under a tree near a fence line by 900 who was able to direct KHP troopers in until they literally stumbled over him. My guess is, after a drive, crash, and run like that, all the adrenaline was draining out of his system and his legs just wouldn't work any longer! The chase was so long, the RN County deputies that stirred it up initially had to stop for fuel in Stafford to get back to Hutchinson when they finally broke off in Stafford County. KHP continued the chase from there. At one point, KHP dispatch patched talkgroups 326 and 338 from Troop F and E together to coordinate the two groups of Troopers and the aircraft. The suspect is spending a quiet weekend at the “Edwards County Hilton” and will be escorted back to the “Reno County Ramada” on Tuesday….

There was some "going digital" at the end since that area is kind of a rough low area and may not have great coverage everywhere even though they were fairly close to the Fellsburg tower. Digital communications can be more sensitive to that sort of thing as well as "multi-path" interference.

The suspect was driving a stolen car from Wichita. He also mananged to drive around at least sets of stop sticks. At one point, they also tried to patch the Reno sheriff TG with the Troop F TG, but were unable to.

I meant to say at least 3 sets of stop sticks. I need to proofread my posts.

From a message that was sent out yesterday from the KS Interop Communications Coordinator:

"At the end of February, Kansas will accept the final seven sites of our statewide communications system at an event in Schaumburg, Illinois. In the months following, these final sites will be installed and made operational, thus producing the first statewide shared-use multi-agency communications system in Kansas."

So, there you are- down to the last 7 sites!

Just heard Hays dispatcher talking to a Kansas Highway Patrol Trooper. Car stop on I-70 at mile post 79. I'm in Dighton At K-23 & K-96 intersection. They came in loud and clear. Guessing north west towers are back up and running now.

Yes, but there are still 11 sites licensed that have not been confirmed/updated in the database. So which 4 are already up and operational, and what are their site numbers? OK, so I'm a bit testy this afternoon. Sorry! :)

Just putting out an RFB to replace the last of our wideband-only radios. About 50 of them. Then get all the final steps to narrowband storm sirens THEN we can narrowband our final 6 repeaters and reprogram all 600+ radios. Again. And then I think a lengthy vacation is in order....

I have a question: Do the KHP digital radios still support the two simplex channels that they originally had when they were using the stand-alone towers? One was 855.9625 and the other was a higher freq. that has since been "rebanded". KDOT used the same two freqs. with different DCS tones. The KBI also licensed 868.900 as a simplex channel. Since rebanding I notice that both the rebanded 868.8375 (?) channel and the KBI simplex channel are carrying KHP trunked channels. 853.900 is one of the freqs. used by the Olathe tower, and it carries a lot of routine KHP traffic. All these simplex channels got relicensed by the FCC under their rebanded counterparts. I was just wondering if all the simplex channels had actually been given up and "refarmed" into the trunk?? Anyone know the answer to this?

I think i'm having trouble with Clay co coming across on their P25 system. I have heard them on the TG so i know that i have it programmed. I live in Washington Co so distance isn't a problem either. I hear them on their "old system" and not all deputies/city units are using the digital but a few are. Dispatch has also been simulcasting because when dispatch comes up on the old system and calls for a unit and they don't respond on the old system i know they have to be talking on the digital system but for some reason i can't get any traffic through their digital system lately. Anyone else monitoring them or having similar problems?

I presume you have both the Haddam and Wakefield sites (852.46250c, 852.72500a & 852.77500c, 852.48750a) programmed in? Possibly even Cloud County (852.23750c, 852.90000a)?

Ya I have them all. I don't know if maybe it's something on their end because i get a transmission every now and then but it doesn't seem to pick it up on the digital side as quickly as the old system but even if i just pause on the TG it still won't pick up sometimes.

are you using GRE PSR-500? If so sometimes you have to use the software to tweak some advance settings as sometimes that model has reception issues.

Scott County has now switched to digial all the time. They are using TG 568 dispatching both Law Enforcement and EMS. Right now Dispatch is encrypted, but mobiles and handie talkies are in the clear.

Just a side note, tonight I heard a call "ambulance to hospital". St. Catherines Hospital in Garden City answered. Turned out that it was a Wichita County ambulance wanting to talk to Wichita County Hospital. Wondering how much confussion there is going to be when 2 or 3 counties have ambulance stuff going on plus Eagle Med is flying?

Has anyone close to the "Kansas Star Casino" plugged in to thier freq's yet? I have the "BootHill Casino" freq's in my scanner. Every time I go to Dodge City I hear interesting stuff from the eye in the sky to security on the floor. Just wondering if anyone is close enough to Mulvane to pick them up?

If I remember correctly, it was going to be a proprietary digital modulation type (not APCO-25). I haven't been down that way to find out. I know someone working there and will try to remember to ask....
