FYI: The following towers have received STAs from the FCC to add and/or shift their frequencies around:

Site-1022 / 2006-09-29 14:44:18
Site-1023 / 2006-09-29 14:43:37
Site-1013 / 2006-09-29 14:42:01
Site-1012 / 2006-09-29 14:39:32
Site-106 / 2006-09-29 14:35:51
Site-110 / 2006-09-29 14:33:06
Site-101 / 2006-09-29 14:31:02
Site-1025 / 2006-09-29 14:28:54
Site-1019 / 2006-09-29 14:25:29

I suspect that more frequency changes will be forthcoming before Nextel Rebanding starts. Likewise, once the rebanding process starts, all of these frequencies are supposed to shift down -15 MHz. During that time, we will list the new and the old frequencies together, until it's confirmed that switchover to the new ones has taken place. Subsequently, the FCC listing will change from "YF" to "YE" for each site.

It appears the Paola and Waverly towers are still using the old control channel assignments. 867.3625 for the Paola site and 867.600 for Waverly.

Information on KHP radio Upgrade

To all. We received this today. Hope this hopes everyone. I'm not a radio guy, just a lonely Trooper here in Kansas. But I hope some of you will make sense of this. It seems everyone out there is interested in the progress. BE SAFE

Here is the info you requested:

1. Installation of the KDOT Message switch is tentatively set to be complete by 10-31-06. Once complete we will have our "Gateway" in place for our MDT's. I have visited with Ed Geer and conveyed your proposal to utilize a satellite server to store the KHP data so it will not reside on the KDOT message switch. He concurs that is a good strategy.

2. The radio installation in patrol cars has been completed in Troop H. Work is currently underway to install the new radios in trooper cars in Troops A, B, C, & F. The radios are being built and programmed right now with installation to begin in the next couple of weeks. It will take a few months to complete installation in all locations.

3. The radio tower conversion for all counties in Troop H is complete. If you need those sites let me know and I will get you the list.

Currently work is underway on the Shawnee tower in Troop B and the Sedgwick tower in Troop F. Those should be converted by end of this week if it is not already complete. As soon as the new radios are in those cars, the troopers in Topeka and Wichita will be operating on the new system.

The next towers and anticipated dates of conversion are as follows:

Troop C - Bennington (Ottawa Co.) 11-17-06.
Troop A - Olathe (Johnson Co.) 12-01-06.
Troop A - Bonner Springs (Wyandotte Co.) 12/08/2006
Troop A - Easton (Leavenworth Co.) 12/15/2006
Troop B - Lawerence (Douglas Co.) 12/22/2006
Troop B - Eskridge (Waubansee Co) 1/05/2007
Troop B - Reading (Lyon Co.) 1/12/2007
Troop C - Cottonwood Falls (Chase Co) 1/19/2007
Troop F - El Dorado (Butler Co.) 1/26/2007
Troop F - Dexter (Cowley Co.) 2/02/2007
Troop F - Mayfield (Sumner Co.) 2/09/2007

After that, the work will move to the Northeast Part of the state and the remainder of Troop B will be converted. Those will likely occur in the second half of 2007. After that, work will move down to Troop F to finish the western portion of that Troop. That probably won't happen until late 2007 or early 2008. From there, all of Troop C will be converted, hopefully by middle or end of 2008.

Troops D & E are not on the radar screen yet as funding for that portion of the project has not been secured.

Ed403,

Do you know if the conversion to the Troop H towers include the rebanding? I have still been picking up KHP, ABC, and KBI on the current frequency assignment. Ron had given us an update that the State had requested a waiver to proceed with the rebanding. I am curious if the tower in Troop H have been changed yet or not. I would assume not since I am still receiving transmissions.

Thanks,

I'm not sure on any of the rebanding stuff. Sorry, the information I posted yesterday is via enter office email just to keep us in the loop for the progress of the new radio system. Sorry, I can't answer your question right now, but I know a couple of guys in radio for the KHP. Let me do some checking and see what I can find out sometime this week. BE SAFE

I made some call's and will be heading to the KHP radio shop on Friday to try and get some information for everyone. I'm buying coffee for them, that helps!! I have rebanding and talkgroups on the list. Anything else that comes to mind, just holler and I will check before Friday. Will do my best to get you the information requested. I just hope this system works as good as the radio lab says it will. The Troop's in Chanute area really like it, so I hope I will like it as well. I do know that Troop C, Salina area, will be broke up into 3 talk groups. We will have a north, south and east for the 18 counties we patrol. So that should help us in the field. Sure will be different hearing radio numbers at the Nebraka border. HAHAH.. Be Safe and get back with all of you on Friday night or Saturday. Also my personnal email is:

khp403@sbcglobal.net

Feel free to email me direct if you want. Have a GREAT week.

Ed403,

If you get the chance ask how Troop H is broken down. I have heard they are using Zone 1 and 2 but don't know what talkgroups are assigned to which and what counties are in each zone. This would be of great help!

Thanks,

Information

I was able to get some information today from KHP radio in relation to the trunk system going forward. The first question was on rebanding. The state has just began to talk with consultant's from Nextal on this issue. It will be sometime before any decision is made this I would think. I was told that from today forward, as the towers are updated to the trunk system, the rebanding will be done at the same time to save money. As of now, the only areas that will need rebanded is Troop H (Chanute), Wichita and Topeka. I was told "it will be awhile". You guys read into that what you will.

As for the Troop H (Chanute area) talk groups. This is what I got. I attempted to attach it, but was to much. So I will retype it. If you want to send me a message to khp403@sbcglobal.net, I can send you it via email.

I don't know anything about how they decided on the colors or anything else guys. Just typed in what I know. I am no radio person at all. HAHAH Also Troop H (Chanute) in broke in half The line runs north and south so they have an east and west dispatch area down there. I know a couple of troops down there and the bigest problem they will hear people 250 miles away, but not their partner 10 miles from them. This is due to the east/west split with the Troop. As for any other talk groups, I have no idea.

I hope this makes it out and hope it helps everyone out. As for Wichita area, those talk groups are changing, so the list they had, would be not good. As for Topeka, they are still working an the groups for that area. BE SAFE TO ALL.

Ed403,

The old color codes were as follows:

Violet = Buffalo
Brown = Emporia and West Mineral
Green = Independence and Waverly
Gray = Paola and Severy
Yellow = Parker and Sedan
Red = Virgil
Blue = Xenia
Oragne = Topeka

These were for Troop H and Topeka was given Orange. They seemed to be assigned to a group of frequencies and then those frequencies were used at several sites across the state. I would imagine that is what their plan is for the new system.

Do you have any idea where the North/South line is for Troop H? I figure maybe 75 Hwy as I can only pick up the Buffalo, West Mineral, and Xenia towers in Erie.

Thanks for the info!

A large portion of Troop A is getting their new portables and in-car radios on October 25th and 27th.

Wichita Tower

Ron,

Here is some data on the Wichita tower. It is up and running but seemed to carry only traffic from Troop H. I didn't hear anything from Troop F on the digital tower. I did hear Troop F traffic on the Wichita/Sedgwich County 800 system and the old 800 system.

The Hutchinson tower is transmitting what sounds like standard 800 control system buzz. I programmed it as conventional in a different bank and I still didn't hear any traffic on it. I did pick up Hutch PD and Reno County SO on their 155 mhz systems. I am curious why they would have the system on yet not use it... and why standard 800 if they plan on going digital...

I had done a print screen on the System Activity and Site Information pages but couldn't open them when I returned home. Hope this helps to update the database. If you need these other pages let me know. I might be back in that area in a couple of weeks.

Hey folks in Kansas, I drove through on I-35 from KC to Emporia going west on Oct 12 and east on Oct 17. I wasn't hearing anything with the listed CC's in DB so ran a quick search (Pro-96 & 2096). I picked up CC 858.8125 with ID 1072 and 3792, going west. Going east, on CC 867.6000, ID's 361 and 362 dispatching to units. Two other CC's were also picked up, but weak. 861.7750 (?) and 866.7125 (Severy) 53 miles south of Emporia. I followed US 50/KS 150/US 56 out of Emporia towards Rice County and US 50 from Hutch on the return.

What frequency are you hearing this control channel buzz on from the Hutchinson tower?

Thanks for the information!

867.5500 Mhz. But no data/packets at either 3600 or 9600 baud that I can see. It has been active, doing this for a couple of months now. I am wondering if it is a discrete data transmission of another sort (MDT, Transponder, Remote Control) ??? It sounds similar to a 3600 baud Motorola control channel but will not decode as such on my Pro-95 or Pro-96......n0lqt-.-
