A northbound tractor-trailer saw the collision and attempted to slow down but struck the emergency vehicle.
Trooper Adams jumped the guardrail to avoid being struck but his left foot became pinned under the right front passenger-side tire of the tractor-trailer.
After being removed from under the wreckage, Trooper Adams was taken to T.J. Samson Hospital in Glasgow where he is now in fair condition.
