Hey everyone. I noticed when looking at the database page for KYEM, it says "DMARCS was upgraded during 2007 to an APCO 25 Digital Multicast encrypted two-way radio system." But, none of the regional channels have an E beside them.

So, my question is: Is KYEM / National Guard encrypted? Or is it available to listen to on a scanner?

Also, this may be a dumb question to some, but I don't know how to figure it out, even if it is obvious. Thanks for any help :)

KYEM, I haven’t heard them run encryption....yet.

KYNG is about 50/50 clear and encrypted from what I’ve monitored them here in SE KY.

DMARCS is not encrypted. All sites are linked via microwave dishes or can be used for local single repeater operation. IF someone keys on an eastern KY tower than you will hear it on a western KY tower.

Okay, thanks to both of you!

Yeah, they have been testing new helicopter radios. Sherman Ops & State EOC is what I hear the majority of the time with the exception of Guard Aircraft calling in for radio checks.

While I am at it, does anyone know what the beeping sound I hear on these channels is?
Describe beeping, like key up on a radio beep, failsoft tone beep, EDACS style beeping "Jingle". I've never heard beeping on the channels

Basically, my scanner will stop and it has like a series of beeps and then stops and my scanner goes on to another channel. It's kinda hard to explain honestly.
