Evenin' everyone...
So I will be moving not this weekend but next weekend from Raleigh, NC to Richmond (Just south of Lexington)...will I be able to hear most of the Lexington radio traffic from Richmond? I know the 2 cities are about 30 mins away but I am hoping to hear at least a little of Lexington radio traffic...
here are a couple of pics of some of the radios I will be bringing with me:

scanners2.jpg

add my Pro96 to the above bunch and I think I should be covered for most local activity :D
BTW: anyone know the Richmond Police Freqs BTW??
Thanks for any info you can provide and Go Wildcats!

Most of the Richmond and Madison Country Police and Fire communications are on the Madison County 800 mHz Motorola Type II trunked system. Information on this system can be found on this site in the RR Database. Lexington PD operates on several VHF frequencies, all still analog. The State Police are APCO-25 Digital (conventional) in the 453 to 460 mHz range. Info on all these can also be found in the RR Database.

Lexington's Fire Department operates on a Large regular EDACS system shared with the University of KY, Fayette County School System, LEXTRAN (busses), Fayette County Animal Control and the Lexington Sewer Department. This system would probably be difficult to receive in Richmond without an outdoor, rooftop antenna. The Lexington Police on VHF, should be receivable with few problems in Richmond. I suggest you study the frequency listings in the RR Database. They are quite extensive and accurate for the most part. You will want to look at Fayette and Madison Counties. East and North of Richmond, you will want to look at Clark and Estill County listings.

:) :) :)

Yes, I live in Clark Co. not too far from the Fayette line and I can not receive the trunked system. I can, however, pick up most of the police traffic, although units on the west side of town can get a little hard to hear. I can also hear the trunked system out of Madison Co. in my house. By the way, nice collection of radios you have!

Marshall, you're gonna need at least one truck to haul the radio gear in your move. :) Good luck in your new location.

Hmmm, lookin at all that stuff, you sure you have enough scanners? Seems you could use at least 4 more.

Before I left Kentucky I could hear lexington PD vhf down in southeast laurel county in London. I used a scantenna antennacraft scanner antenna with 40 foot mast.

I also did pick up the Richmond Trunked 800 mhz system.

Note: While on 1-75 going through berea and richmond i did get cell phone interferance on the madison co 800 system

BTW: still trying to figure out the 10 codes and signals for Lexington/Richmond...is there a list somewhere online? I have searched low and high and have not found anything yet
And I am still thinkin' of trying to put together a group/club with monthly meeting for Scanner/Shortwave listeners in the Lexington Area...maybe there will be a little bit of interest from a few people or maybe not...we will see...
Happy Monitoring!
