I'm looking for info related to the closest site and corresponding frequencies for scanning the LA 800 trunked system in the Eunice area. The lists I have seen do not show sites close enough for traditional 800mhz reception. (ie. sunset and oakdale). I did find a map showing a site at Lauderdale but I have not seen any otherinfo posted for it.

Any information would be appreciated.

i monitor statewide from a tower 30miles away, with good reception (only when i purchased an rs 800mhz ant for my 246t) if you cant use the freqs listed, search through the 800mhz band and use a found freq for cc only moto 2...there maybe some closer towers no one knows about and or reported to add.

I know St. Landry Sheriff and Opelousas Police share an 800 mhz
system. And that system is an anolog Type 2. Louisiana State Police
has a tower at Troop I in Lafayette and I have no trouble monitoring
the State system, and I live 60 miles from Lafayette in Denham Springs. In fact on my scanner I have all the law enforcement talk
groups associated with State Police. All of the Troops and regions of
the possum cops ( game wardens) of Wildlife and Fisheries. Perhaps
you might be in a bad location in your house with that antenna. I know with my 796d that I keep on my nightstand in the bedroom,
I get crappy reception using an RS 800 Mhz indoor antenna . But let
me move it into the living room on the end table next to me and my
reception on 800 is far better than it being on my nightstand. I have
a 396 D handheld and it picks up real well in either my bedroom or
livingroom; go figure. But when I use the antenna that originally came
with my 796D in the bedroom I do not receive at all and the reception
in the livingroom is real scratchy and keeps breaking up.

KA5LUG,

The closest site to you should be the Sunset tower. The tower at Troop I is a conventional site. You really should not have any problems listening on the Sunset tower site, but of course a number of conditions could hinder your reception. I would try an outdoor (or mobile antenna) this will help your reception greatly.
