• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Any clue to the LA echo 1 repeater?
Can be heard strong in most of Ventura Co.
Channel 22.
Strong sig in inside the car on a HT rubber duck antenna.
Is this on Mt. Wilson or over LA somewhere?

The LA Echo 1 repeater is primarily Spanish speakers. It’s exact location isn’t known, but it’s believed to be on Lukens, Harvard or Disappointment. The machine has been there a couple of years now and never ID’s with anything other than the LA Echo 1 thing, never any call letters. I very rarely will hear Spanish speakers on there, also no call signs. What can you say, this is GMRS is LA. The FCC doesn’t seem to care. I‘ve given up on GMRS repeater usage and just use it simplex.

I really don’t think anyone knows. I tried to find out about a year ago but all I could learn was it was run by someone named Ramone. I’ve never heard a call sign of any type. I’ve listened, and with my meager Spanish skills I’ve been unable to hear calls signs. I believe it may also be linked to another repeater somewhere. My only real complaint with the thing is that it ID’s so often that it feels like they’re trying to run everyone else away. That, and if you’re going to ID then ID with a call sign. I don’t know if anyone has tried to report it to the FCC or not. I suspect that even if they did the FCC wouldn’t do anything. That frequency was co-opted by Kevin Bondy for years and nothing ever happened. LA is what I would call a non-permissive environment for GMRS repeaters. I have a GMRS base and a mobile in the car. I use it simplex only about to about 10-12 miles or so. Every time someone tries to put up an open repeater it is very quickly jammed and an assortment of radioactive Neanderthals come out of the woodwork.

Ok. Just like any other band, bone heads find a open slot and start up.
Up here in Ventura after the Thomas fire, contractors got some barfing radios and worked our 440 machines.
Nothing happened.

I grew up in Ventura County so I'm very familiar. I still go out there a lot as I have family there and my best friend lives in Camarillo. I love that they have some linked repeaters that pretty much covers the county and there's aren't too many knot heads.

*LA Echo is a series of repeaters.
*Ramone is on the system, so is Miguel and Carlos Santana.
*They speak Spanish AND English, and some use call signs.
*About 50% in Socal speak or understand Spanish, while the others just use real time web translators to monitor and enjoy the LA Echo 1 repeaters.
*They find it funny that the English repeaters get jammed and all, they do is ask for radio checks ,and whine about the FCC.

Want to know more about LA Echo 1 ???
Just come up on the freq and ask! Say hi! Yes it's mostly Spanish, but they welcome Gringo's as long as you don't ask for endless radio checks.
No secrets here...just not giving out all the gory details , because some folks need to effort on their own.

Hint: They love long distance yagi simplex and make contacts on both sides of 725 i/o NO pl's.

Spanish 2-way is 100 times more entertaining AND I see a lot of the same posters here and on Echo1 system.
