Has anyone ever heard any activity on the LA IMPACT channels? Is this Task Force still operational? If it is operational, where do they operate?

Your list of "Operations" frqs. is out of date, no longer used, even though it's still printed in some books, and just recently at RR. The "Surveillance" freqs. are almost all in use, simplex, so you have to be close to hear them. You can hear them almost daily with 94.8 Hz.

Thanks for your response.

A few questions:
To be clear, the "Operations" frequencies are no longer used?
The "Surveillance" frequencies are only in simplex?
Where do you listen?
Where do you hear IMPACT operating (cities)?
What times of the day/night do you hear IMPACT?
Have you ever heard them operating in the LA City limits, particularly the SFV?

Thank you,

Dave

Out here Pomona I have heard the IMPACT team several times. Never said much since its all surveillance. You will hear them all over LA county. They dont have any normal times, since its surveillance, could be anytime 24/7. I have heard most of the traffic during the days. From what I have heard they call the local pd and ask for the traffic stop in most cases.

L.A. IMPACT has been busy in Pomona for the last year:

Investigation of CHP officer's murder leads to 57 arrests
-
Monday, April 24, 2006

(04-24) 18:29 PDT Pomona, Calif. (AP) --

Fifty-seven suspected gang members were arrested after a yearlong investigation into the death of a CHP officer who was shot by a 16-year-old boy outside a courthouse, authorites said Monday.

Investigators from local, state and federal agencies began arresting the suspected members of the Pomona 12th Street Sharkies gang Friday on charges ranging from conspiracy to commit murder to weapons and drug-related violations, California Attorney General Bill Lockyer said in a statement.

Authorities used wiretaps, informants, surveillance and undercover agents during the investigation to obtain evidence against alleged gang leaders. Authorities seized dozens of weapons, more than $43,000 in cash, and illegal drugs worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The probe began after Valentino Mitchell Arenas shot CHP Officer Thomas Steiner in April 2004 outside a Pomona courthouse to gain status with members of P12, one of the oldest and most notorious street gangs in the city.

Steiner, of Long Beach, was attacked after leaving the courthouse, where he had testified in five traffic citation cases.

Arenas later admitted to the killing and was sentenced in March 2005 to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

"I sincerely hope the arrests resulting from this investigation bring a sense of justice to the Steiner family and relief from fear and intimidation to the citizens of Pomona," said Will Telish, director of the Los Angeles Interagency Metropolitan Police Apprehension Crime Task Force.

Couple months back stumbled onto an air unit following someone on the 101-freeway and talking to ground units on Simplex. Cant recall which exact frequency it was however.

I suspect as more agencies adopt radios that access each others channels, the need for standalone LA Impact frequencies is greatly diminished.

RADIO COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
[FONT=Times New Roman,Times New Roman][FONT=Times New Roman,Times New Roman]In 2008, L.A. IMPACT completed the implementation of its new radio communication system. The state of the art communication system has greatly enhanced team surveillance capabilities and has allowed L.A. IMPACT task force members to easily communicate car to car without static or distortion. This new system is designed around the fully interoperable and programmable Motorola XTS 5000 radio which has been integrated with the Interagency Communications Interoperability System (ICIS). The ICIS system utilizes cell phone sites to enable car to car transmissions to be heard county-wide without distortion. A hard mount docking station for the radio along with the latest radio surveillance equipment was installed in each task force member’s vehicle for unlimited surveillance capabilities. This new audio communication system will enhance safety and efficiency for the task force for many years to come. Programming of all participating agency frequencies, which will enable task force members to communicate with other Southern California law enforcement agencies, is planned for early 2009.

I suppose those XTS5000 radios can have the previous frequencies programmed in them also...!

According to ICIS board minutes, LA Impact is again dropping the use of ICIS.

I guess they will be back on their older UHF stuff again.

Started listening to these guys and found there is a ton of activity here in the IE. What's strange though is their freq designators like North 1, West 3, etc. all seem to be used here as well. Doesn't really match the geographical areas. Ummm???

All their vehicle are asset forfeiture vehicles like Cadillacs, mustangs and vehicles you would never recognize. They mount their antenna under the vehicles or on the inside rear decks. Guys have beards and look like dirt bags. These officers go in really deep.

Interesting indeed and I'm not too surprised either. They were pretty casual and even a few f-bombs over the air :)

What got my attention though was Omaha and Flint a/c working with them. I listen to CBP out of March and their aircraft often discuss assisting IMPACT on details. Figured I'd load up the freqs and so far logged activity on a daily basis.
