That's the same way I relayed info to KCRA's chopper in Sacramento when I didn't want anyone to hear me, never knew other markets were doing it also. It's a great way to get around the two-way.

Do you use a sat phone or cell phone for the IFB?

Sat phone??? We're CBS. Two cans and a string.

We have a dedicated cell phone in the back of the van just for the IFB. We can use the cell phone, the radio, or off air (But with digital, it's a LAST resort) through the truck IFB.

I am surprised no one has mentioned all those satellite trucks that do not belong to the O & O’s. Close to 90 percent of all network news shots us contracted news “satellite” trucks. Those units and crews have radios and wireless IFB as well don’t they?

I also remember for a time that KTLA encrypted one of their 450 frequencies. Do they still encrypt? Does anyone else encrypt?

FYI: One news operation uses a commercial trunking system.

Wow such good info here, and then I look in the Radio Reference database and its almost empty for LA Media frequencies.

Maybe you experts could be persuaded to submit the info into the database for easy reference in the future for all members to find.

Even with consolidation of some of the LA stations, you'll probably see more 12.5k channels allocated/licensed as narrowbanding approaches forcing them off the 25k wide channels. Good for those stations that have been operating on the 161MHz media block unless they enjoy the propagation but they'll need to narrowband those freqs too.

Actually news media isn't required to move to 12.5khz channels as they're covered under part 74 (Broadcast Auxiliary)

Went through that at my old TV station in Seattle.
