After more than a decade of effort, the Los Angeles Regional Interoperable Communications System (LA-RICS) expects to complete the final-acceptance stage of the organization’s Project 15 (P25) system next month, according to information provided this week to the LA-RICS Joint Powers Agreement (JPA) board.

System details here:

Watch a massive earthquake take it all out next month...

Edit-

Did the math. Of the 495 talkgroups, 288 are encrypted and 207 are unencrypted. Making 58% of the system encrypted and 41% of the system unencrypted.

It seams like the only real user of the system is LASD and a small handful of city police......hopefully worth the price......

Might be a dumb question, but I'll ask it, anyway. Presuming LA-RICS is fully operational, or when it is, if I just program in the "Analog simulcast" frequencies, will that be enough or do I need to have the trunking channels in as well?

My understanding is that if it’s P25 then you will need to assign talkgroups as well. But I’m new with the digital stuff.

This is an P25 system. The conventional stuff is also P25. For the trunked portion you must program it as such.
