When ever I see LAFD rolling by they're always talking on their portables instead of their mobiles. Is there a reason they don't use the mobiles?

When ever I see LAFD rolling by they're always talking on their portables instead of their mobiles. Is there a reason they don't use the mobiles?

They don't have to reach as far for the microphone, or the mobile might be needed on a different frequency.
