I'm using SDR# with (2) V5 Nooelec dongles. I put a bank together from the database and what folks are posting in the Arizona thread.

Someone over there mentioned I should be in NFM for VHF, and AM for UHF. I added a few of the same VHF entries but switched to NFM, so I'm scanning both.

99% if my issue is 8 miles distant and an antenna height of 15ft. I know I can get GA/CA when they are in the air from Sky Harbor (15 miles away) and with the gain all the way up, ground transmission from the tower barely.

Anyways, if someone feels like shining some light on what I'm probably doing wrong - I'd me most appreciative.

PS: I've also tried the trunk system that the data base shows on SDRTrunk. I can't even get the control channels to come up - just "idle'. All my other aliases work fine.

It may be partially due to modulation. It's actually AM for all aircraft from 118 MHz through 400 MHz.

The other part of it is likely line of sight, remember that VHF operates online of sight and aviation antennas are not typically mounted very high. The assumption being that either the aircraft is on the ground at an airport, or high in the sky. So the antennas on the ground don't need to be mounted very high.

Thanks! Looks like nothing will be in the air until 1100 local, 2 hours from now. I'll just hang out until then and see what I get.

Appreciate the info.
