Does anyone have frequencies for Lake County SO, Leadville PD, or any others besides the three fire frequencies listed in the RR database?

The three frequencies listed in the database are what's in use, the FCC database postings once again are not accurate.

Also no DTRS up that way, the site still needs to be constructed.

OK, thanks to all for the responses. I don't go through there often, but I'll play around with the scanner next time I do.

How are the FCC listings inaccurate? The fire frqs. in the RR database do match two of the FCC licenses (WNKC865 & WNVJ851). The remaining FCC licenses are for the PD and Sheriff and local gov't it appears, and epbernstein did ask for them. Maybe after epbernstein makes a visit to Lake County he will be able to make additions to the RR database.

FCC licenses in general for Colorado are very bad and especially in the mtn counties where only one or two frequencies are used total.

Hey maybe you should make a trip from California and play the highest golf course in the country sometime.

I'll be staying at a cabin in Teller County next July (if not sooner) and will swing through Lake Co. to verify all their licensed PD/SOchannels. Love those fourteeners!

Lake County Colorado

Be sure to look on the roof of the county courthouse in Leadville and see if there is a Motorola MSR repeater wrapped in a blue tarp and held in place on the roof with bungie cords or ropes. You might also see an orange electrical cord going from the tarp and down a sewer gas vent on the roof. A real first class installation.

Lake County

Hello. There just was not time to drive through Lake County during my July vacation to Colorado to check out the freqs. in use. Maybe this Thanksgiving, or next Spring or Summer. Happy monitoring, Mick

Lake County deputies handcuffed a fire department captain

I'll be in Lake County this summer finally.

Interesting news article:

An ongoing squabble between the Lake County sheriff and Leadville firefighters reached a particularly nasty point when two deputies handcuffed a fire department captain who was trying to treat a woman with a broken neck.

Fire Capt. Dan Dailey spent a little over an hour handcuffed in a jail cell in uniform before Leadville Police Chief Mike Leak released him. District Attorney Mark Hurlbert said his office is investigating the incident and will decide early next week whether to file charges.

It was the latest incident in a two-year tussle between Lake County Sheriff Ed Holte and the fire department over how emergency services should be handled in the mountain and mining county.

Currently, Leadville provides fire protection throughout the county with nine paid firefighters and six volunteers.

Holte, a retired Colorado State Patrol trooper who was elected to his first term as Lake County sheriff almost four years ago, wants his deputies to be trained as firefighters, allowing them to essentially replace the Leadville Fire Department and take over county fire services, according to Leadville Mayor Bud Elliott.

The mayor, however, wants to continue the city's agreement with the county to provide fire protection, said Fire Chief Robert Harvey.

"We're very well trained in basic life support and certified to administer IVs," Harvey said.

The intergovernmental agreement between Leadville and Lake County expires at the end of December. But for two years now, Holte has had emergency dispatchers, who work for him, sending deputies first to all emergency calls, including medical calls, Elliott said.

"Dispatch is being used as a political tool by the sheriff," Elliott said. "When he tells dispatch not to send anyone but a deputy, say, to a fire to assess the situation first, the community isn't being served well. So far, they've had only campfires to deal with, but this is a catastrophe waiting to happen."

Great idea, shouldn't take more than a couple of weeks. Fighting fires and responding to medial calls is as easy as say; dealing with a family disturbance or writing a ticket. Easy stuff for any cop with no experience beyond their field. Seriously, I'm not living there and don't know the players involved, but my take is the Sheriff has gone loco and forgotten one fundamental rule of life: everybody loves firemen, and everybody hates the cops! It's a foregone conclusion who is going to win this battle.

Now the Sheriff's office is embroyled in another controversary:

As I said in another thread on this subject: it's ALL about the money. Train your deputies as FFs, and suddenly the sheriff can tap into Fire funds in addition to LE funds. In a poor neighborhood like Lake County, that's got to nearly double (maybe more than double) the dollars available! You could call it "brilliant" if it weren't for the danger to public safety it causes.
So... if the deputies are in the middle of following a burglar from the scene of the crime and suddenly a nice house in the hills is threatened by a wildfire, do they drop the burglary case in order to save the nice house? Hmmmm........

I have tried to pull it up on-line and can't find it, but is this Sheriff up for re-election this fall? If so, I'm thinking he is going to be a one termer!!! This feud just keeps getting better and better! What's next? A duel at Harrison Avenue and Eight Street.

I finally made it to Lake County last month and spent just an hour in town before continuing on.

The database has the sheriff channels correct.

I did locate the tone for this:
LEADVILLE, CITY OF WNKC865
153.785 D025 Parkville Water District

The Colorado State Patrol was heard on 154.695 103.5 Hz.

I could also hear DTRS sites 232 & 233 while stopped in town.

Were you hearing car-to-car communications, dispatch-to-car, or dispatch only on that one?

It seems many of the CSP troops that still have VHF radios in their cars use the old VHF TAC channels for informal chit-chat.

It was a dispatcher talking to a mobile & they switched channels to 159.345R 100.0 to continue their traffic.

Now for my 2 cents on Leadville/Lake Co. I make 3-4 short trips there a year. I was there for an hour today. Boom Days celebration was in progress downtown. From the name, I was hoping explosives were involved but sadly no. I think 154.695 103.5 is Leadville PD. I've heard it several times before. Today's callsigns heard include Leadville (dispatcher), Police 1, 2 4 & 10, Fire 1 and Sheriff 6. The RRDB shows this licensed to the State of Colorado. I didn't hear any CSP on it today but I bet it's in their cars same as CSP in other counties that still have local agencies on VHF. I did get a quick hit on 155.655 100.0 but couldn't identify agency or activity. I have never heard 159.225 or 159.345. Not saying they're not good, just that I've never heard them on any trip. I doubt Lake SO has much traffic. And lastly I scanned the Hagerman Pass and Granite DTRS CC's "open". Strong CC coverage all over Leadville. Only TG I found was 8819 Summit Stage bus. And that's that.
