The Coast Guard now has a vhf site on Lake Winnebago in the Oshkosh area. The site is monitored at Sector Lake Mich. in Milwaukee and at Station Sheboygan. I have not heard too much traffic on it so far. However, there is no full time CG station on LW, instead an AUX. detachment. When there is a need for a full time unit to respond, it will come from Sta Sheboygan. Air support from Airsta Traverse City, MI.

Please feel free to ask me any questions you may have. Thanks

That's cool. I quit listening to marine band stuff because I got so tired of listening to poachers yack back and forth.

Any idea what channels they will primarily use? Will they do any regular broadcasts like the CG does up in Lake Superior on Ch22A?

It only has channel 16, 22A, 13, AND 09. You can hear the scheduled BCST, but it's only LM stuff so far.

One more question: do you know if the antenna system is omni or is it tailored to cover the lake mostly? I ask because I'm up here in New London so if I can't hear it that will explain it.

Thanks for the info.

It is a "low level" which has a range of approx. 10 to 15 miles. 09 and 13 are rarely used by the CG. 13 is bridge to bridge and 09 is rec boat to rec boat calling. Again, rarely used by CG. Also, forgot to mention that 23A (CG WORKING FREQ FOR WEST SIDE OF LM) is on the site.
