Lakewood Fatal, as paged

JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. -- A woman was killed early Wednesday on Hampden Avenue near Wadsworth Boulevard when she drove the wrong way and collided with a second car.

The Colorado State Patrol said the driver of the second car, also a woman, was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

The crash happened just after 2 a.m.

On 09-17-08 at approximately 1:20 A.M. Troopers responded to Colorado 285 between Wadsworth Boulevard and Kipling Street.

A silver 2000 Mitsubishi Galant was traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of Colorado 285. A white 2006 Toyota Rav-4 was traveling northbound in the northbound lanes. The front left of the Mitsubishi Galant collided with the front left of the Toyota Rav-4. Both vehicles rotated counter-clockwise before coming to a rest.

The unrestrained driver of the Mitsubishi Galant has been identified as Kelsey J. Hays, 24 of Morrison, CO. Hays sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Jefferson County Coroner.

The restrained driver of the Toyota Rav-4 has been identified as Wynne A.
Warren, 53 of Buena Vista, CO. Warren sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Swedish Medical Center.

The Colorado State Patrol is requesting anyone with information about the whereabouts of Hays in the hours prior to the accident or may have witnessed Hays entering or driving in the wrong lanes of Colorado 285 to call 303-239-4583.

Alcohol/drugs are suspected to be contributing factors.

Next of kin have been notified.
