I have over 1000 hits logged, mostly NW Police with a few hits on other TG's, but only 2 on Fire TG's via the Central site. I've been logging with Freescan all day.

I will have to unlock the other sites and see what I log. Being a simulcast system, shouldn't I log the hits via the Central site, regardless of closest site to the transmitting user?

That's what I thought at first back in November but I don't think that's correct. Open all the sites.

When I only logged the NE tower id only get some. Since then I'd leave them all open for scanning and now I scan the entire county.

If no radios are logged in on the site for that talkgroup, You wont hear the traffic.. P25 resource management at work.. No use transmitting in the blind to no one..

It is simulcast, as long as there is a radio to talk to.. The system doesn't care about us scanner listeners..

I thought for a "simulcast" system, all TG's are on all sites? Am I wrong?

I had access to a radio earlier, checking out the menu, it displayed it connected to the Central site, later connected to the northeast site.

It picks the site with the best signal and uses that, from what i've been told.

I was told today that Metro Police is switching next week and city police two weeks later. From what I was told fire and EMS are switching May 8. I heard transmissions today on the private talk groups for QRS 8, EMS 77, and EMS 38. Someone used Dispatch A and county told them to use their private talk group for testing.

Some hits from various Fire/EMS on their respective private TG's and a few different County Services. Nothing spectacular other than a unit being told to get off Dispatch A and use their private for testing.

Are you scanning all the sites now? If so, are you picking up more than you did?

I have all 4 sites unlocked, however until I can get my antenna up higher than 8' off the ground, I am only receiving a signal on the Central and Northwest sites. Hopefully some elevation will help with the reception.

I am getting more hits than I did before, but I know I am missing quite a few as well.

On a side note, I have been tinkering with POCSAG decoding software, and have compiled the Capcodes for all but 16 of the Fire/EMS agencies listed on the LCWC website.

Around the Ephrata area, with my antenna that came with the 996xt, I get all four sites with good signal. Northwest is alittle less, but i still get it.

I have mediocre reception due to high-tension lines running behind my residence, so I have to overcome the effects of them. Even when I was mobile with my 996XT, I only picked up Central and NW with a fairly strong RSSI and NE with "2 bars" and South was non-existent. With the stock antenna, I was able to pull in only the Central site and NW with "1 bar"

Is there a typical pattern to the cap codes?

100 series is EMS/QRS, 200 and 300 series is Fire. All are "0000###". It appears as though they were assigned on an alphabetic basis by department name within the respective service. although not 1:1.
