Simulcast is all talkgroups on all sites, BUT if there is not a radio to talk to, P25 doesn't waste the frequency.

Maybe you need to clarify what you said just a little. Maybe what you were trying to say is when a talkgroup comes up live, it will be sent out over all the tower sites in the simulcast system on the same RF voice frequency. If another talkgroup comes up, the next voice channel will be assigned and it will broadcast over all towers in the simulcast system on the next same assigned voice channel.

In a simulcast system, there is no such thing as a talkgroup only being broadcast on selected towers. It's all towers on the same voice channel or nothing.

Didn't read all 27 pages. Are they keeping 33.90 for dispatch?

They are going to maintain the voice paging on 33.900 for as long as they have spare parts to fix it if something goes out.

They have also launched a County run alphanumeric paging system on an existing analog UHF frequency.

A specific set of talk-groups is simulcast County-wide full time. Most are not, they are limited to towers within one of 3 zones. I believe this includes the Township / Borough and most individual agency talk-groups.

New Scanner

It looks like the switchover for Metro and city was delayed again?
I probably should read this entire thread for the answer to my question, but havent had the time.
I ordered a BCD396XT yesterday. for some reason I was sure Lancaster county was Phase1. Last night I was looking at the County site and they are saying Phase 2. My company does the system for another county and they are Phase2. Am I ok with the phase 1 scanner I bought for Lancaster Co.?
Any word on a new date for the switchover?
Thanks

Yeah i assume no one made the switch for some reason.

Also. I think it's a typo. I posted about it awhile ago but they've updated that page and have made another page and made the same typo again.

It's a P25 Phase 1 system. My 996xt works great.

I know departments are buying P25 phase 1 capable of phase 2 radios. So maybe years down the road they'll go phase 2.

It is an interesting typo for them to keep doing though.

It used to say phase II. Then later it said phase 2. Then on another part of their site it says phase 2.

But again phase 1 scanners work.

if your interested in other counties though, berks, Chester, (York later) are going or planning on phase 2 so the 396xt wouldn't be good.

Logged a bunch of hits this morning and early afternoon on "COW 1", "COW 4", "COW 6", "City 1", "Dispatch A" & "Dispatch C". There seems to be a lot of "radio testing" going on on the COW TG's. The UID's associated with the testing are all either "i1056" or "i6102001".

Still nothing on Metro PD though.

Someone on the county level I know said they'll be going to Phase 2 later on, like next year.

Anyone know what the deal is with that?

I don't think that's correct. because they also told me the currently wouldn't be able monitored with any scanner.

I doubt they are going to put this much time and effort into Phase 1, then a year later move to Phase 2. If that were the case, wouldn't you just build out a Phase 2 system from the start?

And all of that on T Band, which Congress has ordered vacated.

Switch over

I talked to a few depts yesterday. Metro is now switching this coming Monday. I think they said City 2 weeks after that.
I got my BCD396 scanner today. I've got a lot of reading to do. at this point, I dont understand the programming at all. So I have yet to hear a peep put of it. Are there any hints to make things easier? I plan to attempt to load the county P25 system in tonight.

I found the FreeScan software and the programming cable is the easiest way. I have the 996XT and to program it by hand is very tedious work and takes some time. All data can be obtained right here on RR.

Freescan is the best free thing, just use your RR username and password and download the stuff directly.

EDIT:
Also, does anyone know if there will ever be more than the three sites? I thought people stated here before about different towers like Cornwall, Welsh Mtn, Reinholds.

On the FCC database they have some of the same freqs. So I am just curious.

I use the Sentinal software that comes with the BCD396hp. There are some YouTube videos that show how to use it. You can load from the RR database into the software and upload to the scanner. And with the Sentinal software the RR database is free.

There are 4 sites (Central, NW, NE, South) , each with multiple towers. I am not sure which towers are associated with which site though.

Thanks for the info. I did manage to get everything figured out with programming. Now I'm working on how to listen. I used freescan with my RR subscription.

That's great but if there's a firmware update for the scanner you'll need to use the Sentinal software that comes with the scanner to do the update.
