Any idea what kind of shuttle ops they are doing right now? It sounds like they are using helicopters to pick up people from all over Southern California....

Haven't heard of this before. What people were they picking up and where were they taken?

I couldnt figure it out... they were talking about Van Nuys, Bracket Field, Industry Sheriff, Chino, Long Beach, LAX, Burbank, Santa Monica and other airports, and vans and helicopters....

It might have been an exercise for the ballot transportation on Tuesday night..... that is the only thing I can think of.

In San Diego, multiple agencies do an earthquake type drill several times a year. Frequent references to local airports, hospitals, other landmarks. Maybe something similar?

No it was not the CA shakeout drill - that was a few weeks earlier on October 18th.

I heard the comms also briefly. They were definitely using a few of the Helo's to shuttle people around SoCal. There was basically a dispatcher at the event site calling out required destinations for the parties, including a few funny exchanges with people not speaking up and missing their birds.

Don't have time to search around now, but could be interesting to know if there was a law enforcement, helicopter or civic conference in town which the City of LA sponsored.

Talked to a Sheriff Disaster Ops volunteer who was with their S&R commo van from San Dimas station. They had him passing traffic for the election on status of number of ballot bags that each helo was carrying. Traffic was passed to destination election officials to alert them to how many bags were coming. He said he was set up at several locations from 6pm to about 1am on election night. Once the fog rolled in they grounded all the helos he said. I'll try and get some pics next time, he had LA County sheriff radios and 4 ham radios mounted in the back of the truck bed with a nice bench all the way around the interior for easy dispatching. He also works S&R for the San Dimas sheriff.
