On Monday April 23 2012 the LaPorte County Council approved to fund 127,000 dollars to meet requirements for matching funds to upgrade the Counties Fire communications. In total the LaPorte County Fire Chiefs Association will receive 730,000 dollars from the state to completely overhaul the overly antiquated system.
In all there will be three new transmit sites and eight new receiver sites installed in the county. This will add multiple Tactical channels to the system. The terms of the grant require the system be up and running in one year. ERS Indianapolis will be handling the upgrade.
This is great news for the Firefighters in LaPorte County and a true asset to the District with the recent implementation of the M.A.B.A.S. system.

I can remember when all of LaPorte County and Michigan City fire departments were on 33 MHz. Back then, they used to hate it when skip rolled in from California or the Deep South, as it would drown out their own units. Hopefully, this proposed upgrade will make things even better for them, especially since they have implemented the MABAS system.
