I will make one opinionated comment...If you put a $500 laptop in a vehicle, expect trouble. Inexpensive, consumer-grade laptops are often not built for the heat an vibration you get in a vehicle. I use an IBM T23 in my vehicle which is an inexpensive, consumer-grade laptop. I've replaced the hard drive once already. If I was looking for another vehicle laptop, I'd go for a business-class machine from HP, Dell, or Toshiba in the hopes of getting something a bit more rugged.

I haven't seen or used the Ram mounts already discussed here but I have a JottoDesk system that I used in several vehicles over the years as well as some of our squads at work. I've got the non-drill unviersal RAM mount. While I like it, I find that it's a bit wobbly. Certainly won't fall apart, but it isn't as sturdy as some of the drill models. I guess it's a trade off between not drilling and drilling.
