Larimer County Fire and EMS online feed is offline. Does anyone know if this a temporary or long term?
I enjoy listening to the feed now that my own scanner died a couple of years ago.

I was thinking of hosting Loveland PD. Now it looks like Fire is another that needs to be hosted! So I now need two scanners! I only have one digital ATM. I have a great little computer to do it too. I use, (can you believe this?) a netbook for a Filezilla FTP server who's storage is a 15GB SD card. The netbook also is used for a Team Speak server and I run a program on there called PhoneTray that uses a USB Dial-up modem to interpret Called ID and will block telemarketers, numbers I ban and have distinctive rings for friends and family. I also use Nomorobo so I have quit literally a nice phone firewall if you will. LOL! I so wish Nomorobo worked with Cricket! I sent them a twet asking them if they would do it. I should bug them some more.

Anyway... Not really sure if I actually want to do LPD since that may in fact help really push them to encryption. I thought they were going full time encryption this last year, but so far no. I don't know what happened, but whatever I'm thankful I can still hear dispatch. Comes in mighty handy during major storms and such in the summer.

considering providing feed

Well, it has been a few weeks since the Fort Collins (and Larimer county) online scanner has been offline.

I owned a Pro-96 scanner years ago until it died, back in the days when you had to own your own to listen to anything.

I know that with Fort Collins Police being encrypted, there is less to listen to, but PFA, Larimer county, and fire season is just around the corner.

I am in the consideration stage of providing the local feed.
So first step is purchasing a new digital scanner. I know I will need a budget of $500-$600
I would take suggestions of which model should be on my short list.

As a software developer I have computer equipment and a fast Comcast internet connection.
so installing all the pieces on that side should be easy.

I would love to get the talkgroup list from the previous provider, it would shorten the learning curve of what to monitor.
any other feedback is appreciated.

I think another used Pro-96 would do the job and for less money than something new.

But I don't encourage putting scanner traffic online. It has had negative consequences.

I stream the 15th largest department in the country and have spoken to many senior personnel and there has never been a problem. Most agencies have no problem with their dispatch being made public and actually welcome it as they have plenty of tactical channels to use for sensitive information. If an agency encrypts their dispatch they are hiding something.

Mebbe so. But Doug and my town have gone encrypted. And that might even be saying too much.

not a dicussion about encryption

I understand the rules, so this not a discussion about encryption.

There are other agencies of value to monitor including EMS, Fire, Larimer county emergency services, and other agencies when a large public safety event is ongoing, think wild land fire or flood.

just a note. part of the deal when Fort Collins Police enabled encryption, was a arrangement with the media, i.e. the local newspaper, the Coloradoan to have a radio to monitor.
The breaking news reporters often will tweet what they think is important.

I started this discussion to start the process of perhaps providing a feed because the current feed is offline.
The wife has approved the budget, so what should I buy that would be best for providing a feed?

If you are looking for a new scanner for the feed. Go with the Uniden BCD996P2. It works great, easy to program and is cheaper than the 436/536 radios.

I am using one for my feed.

Haven't heard Larimer county in a week on my scanner, Have they moved to frcc?
And does anybody know what CSU pd is doing? Sometimes both sides are scrambled. Sometimes dispatch is in clear and cars are scrambled. And there are times when cars are scrambled and dispatch is in the clear.

They are still on DTRS. What scanner do you have and what sites do you have programmed?

If you lock onto a remote site, like one in Weld County, then you probably will not hear Larimer County. For DTRS, you might want to limit your programming to sites that have a high possibility of being used by Larimer County like Horsetooth and Bald North.

Mixed encryption for both sides. They seem to turn it on and off randomly, but I do not listen to them so there could be a pattern.
