Thanks to this forum, I found the Antenna I was searching for. I was in favor of the scannermasters Comtelco antenna and mount but, after searching the archives and reading everyones threads and posts, it seemed most of you were in favor of the Larsen 150/450/800 Antenna.

I liked the great reviews you guys gave it, so I wanted it too! Since I was in the market for an Antenna, I needed a place to buy this Larsen some of you were raving about! There didn't seem to be much in the way of a Google search regarding purchase information on this Antenna. Again, you guys answered my question! Someone had said to checkout cheapham.com, So I did!

I ordered the Larsen 150/450/800 Antenna and the NMO-TLP Mount from Frank. I heard some people say that they had good customer service but, what I experienced was beyond that!

I ordered my Antenna at around 8:00AM yesterday. Frank had sent me an email asking if I was connecting it to a Scanner. I replied that I was, he informed me that I would also need a PL-259 to BNC Adapter. I was ready to pay for this but, he told me he was going to solder on a BNC Adpater to the PL-259 connection that was on there, all at no charge!

Then, at 10:00AM I got an Email from FedEx confirming that cheapham.com had shipped it. Amazing. I checked my FedEx tracking number this morning to see where it was. I was amazed to see it said "Delivered"

I couldn't believe it, I ordered this antenna online and paid $9.95 for shipping, and I got it in less than 24 hours. I know some people are skeptical of buying items online and I am too but, I was absolutely blown away by cheapham.com

I attached some pictures so everyone can see the quality that this place puts out and hopefully this will ease some people's fears of buying online! As a newbie to scanners and radios and antennas, I have to say this community has been so welcoming and helpful thus far!

I couldn't be more pleased with the help this forum and cheapham gave me!

Thanks Guys!

That's a very good choice for antenna. I have had one for a number of years and it works for my needs. Mine has always been mag mounted on the roof, where it works the best. I have used one at home on the AC and it worked pretty good here too. But it will soon be permanently mounted.

This is an excellent antenna. I actually have two now and highly receommend it. I use this one exclusively over the multitude of antennas I have collected over the years. If you don't need low band then this is the way to go.

Agreed, exactly my thoughts also. Just mentioned it on another board. Comparing it to my 100 dollar Antenna Specialist 55 inch whip with 800mhz enhancement.

I have had one of these Larsens for about a year. Very happy with this antenna, especially on 800mhz.

Larsen NMO150/450/800 Tri-Band & Cheapham.com

After reading the reviews here, I decided to use cheapham.com to get a Larsen NMO150/450/800. I agree with bator, I could not believe how fast I received my antenna from cheapham. I ordered it on Tuesday, 4/7 and just got it this morning Thursday, 4/9. That means I don't have to wait until Monday because of Easter Weekend. All that for $6.95 shipping from NJ to Texas. I am going to try this one out on my truck. I had a Austin Spectra which worked great, but after two years on top of my truck roof, it is starting to look worn. I am using it for my base antenna now. Works great as a base antenna with an NMO mobile to base adapter I bought a few years ago.

Yeah I had the same experience with CheapHam. I got the Larsen Tri-Band with the mag mount. The Larsen is a good overall performer. Excellent in 800 MHz and great in VHF-Hi and UHF. For the price, I don't think it can be beat for a tri-band.

Bator:

I have the same antenna mounted on my Camry using the trunk lip as well. I originally had it mounted in the same location as you, but found it would hit the back window when the trunk was fully upright. I'm assuming you have the same issue? I ended up moving it over to the side of the trunk instead.

I have to agree with everyone else about the performance of the Larsen. Great antenna! I got mine at HRO, but will defintely consider cheap ham in the future.

Same here.

The delivery van showed up and my wife asked if I was expecting a package. I told her I wasn't and I really wasn't.

It was here before I expected it. The first time that ever happened to me.

I also made a purchase from cheapham.com. I e-mailed Frank with some question on my Altima trunk lip and he recommended the mount made by Maxrad (mini trunk mount) for my car. Great service and he even talked me out of buying a spring for the antenna, he said I won't need one and was right. I went with a right angle solderless bnc from RS (easy to put on). No need for a PL-259 with a bnc adapter, I hear the PL-259 doesn't work well with 800mhz.

As with everything else in this world, you only get what you pay for

And the antenna is where you need to spend the most money

I try not to use "ham grade" or "scanner listerner grade" antennas.

Commercial antennas like Larsen are built much better and will outlast lesser grades
