Not as of yet. All of their analog frequencies as listed here on radioreference.com and also the southern nevada scanner book are still active.

Does anyone know the status? Have they started construction, testing, etc?

Is the 700 MHz plan in that RPC even approved?

Did you hear it as in data, or did you actually hear talking? If you heard talking, it wasn't OpenSky.

They sould have saved a lot of our money and gone to the SNACC system. State wide system does'nt have great building penitration here in town.

SNACC System vs. NSRS Edacs

Also, more local agencies use the SNACC system than the NSRS which means if the LVMPD had chosen to go with SNACC interoperability with other local agencies like Henderson PD, North Las Vegas PD, and Boulder City PD and a host of much smaller agencies would be accomplished much more easily. Just look at what the local fire departments can do with SNACC along with the ambulance providers. All of them have SNACC system radios. As it has been said before, Metro PD probably wanted total control of their own high priced system and our expense.

In some communities big ticket items are put to the voters before a decision is made. Given what the economy is like now wonder what the voters would have chosen?

LVMPD Open Sky why not SNACC TRS

Yeah don't know what LVMPD was thinking here?
Why didn't they just move over to the SNACC like everyone else in town?
The SNACC is a large efficient system with plenty of transmitter towers all over town.
The only thing I can think of is they just flat out don't want people to monitor the traffic which is why they went to the open sky system. Also MA-COM maintains the Nevada EDACS Shared System along with the Washoe County TRS for the State of Nevada.

They claim it was an interoperability issue but the SNACC will be ported to the other agencies anyway?

I agree that metro needs to have the radio system upgraded but they could have saved a ton of tax money and utilized the SNACC existing infrastructure.

You guys agree with me here?

LVMPD & Their Radio System

I agree that Metro PD should have gone to the SNACC radio system for interoperability purposes and to save money but certain administrators within Metro don't care at all about spending taxpayers money. Also, some high priced M/A Comm salesperson probably came along and agreed to sell the public a system they really don't need. We are all paying for it unfortunately. Government waste.

Question ...

So I'm not quite up to speed with all of the technical talk in this thread, but I am an avid-scanner in Vegas.. So if/when Metro switches over will one still be able to scan and hear voice or will it only be garbled data? I've heard of some newer scanners covering the 700mhz range, so would this solve my concern? Thanks.

LVMPD OpenSky vs SNACC

I have recently heard LVMPD has a huge beef or maybe even a lawsuit with Motorola right now. Maybe this is the reason they are moving over to MA-COM since their current radios are Motorola. Metro is trying to flex their muscle at the taxpayers expense. Know the Interop issue is a huge thing, but the SNACC already has Interop channels and has expanded the towers all over the area. Have friends that are Metro officers and they don't even understand why they are building a system from the ground up from scratch instead of going with the SNACC. Especially since both Henderson PD and N. Las Vegas PD are some of the primary users on the SNACC. They could already be using this system now if they had anybody with half a brain running the show...

The sheriff is also pushing for another sales tax increase, I think he should reconsider all this spending given the poor economy.
