Hi Guys,

Do casinos allow people to use police scanners on the casino floor?

Considering they don’t allow people to take pictures or videos inside the casino, I think we know what the answer to this is.

They would probably think you were using it to cheat or you were a look out for a robbery team.

What they dont know they dont know. Stuff your scanner in a big jacket pocket with some headphones and scan to your hearts content. Maybe go to the restroom of you need to change scan groups or what have you.

What logical reason would one have to need to bring a scanner to the casino? Just enjoy your time there and leave the scanner in the car

Absolutely not! I was at a ham radio convention there in the early 1970's. A ham used his handheld near at blackjack table for just a second and security came out of the woodwork to pounce on us. Those of us without radios were allowed to leave eventually, those with radios were taken into a back room. When we made the reservations, a group sales, they didn't say anything about it. The PD was called and eventually all hams with handhelds were released, with a stern warning to not bring them back at any time. If that was the situation in the early 70's do you think they are less strict today? The fact that the scanner is only a receiver does not make any difference. We tried to get an exemption that if we didn't transmit we could bring them in . . . NOT!!

I think you are doling out some bad advice. There might even be some state laws on the subject, prohibiting receivers that is.

FWIW, I've been to nearly every casino in Vegas over the past 10 years (and I don't even gamble :D). I had so much radio gear in one hotel that I caught the housekeepers talking about "the spy room with the toy Sputnik on the window sill" (a Diamond D220R mobile discone). That was literally the only time scanners came up.

I've taken a thousand photos and videos on casino floors (along with every other person, usually of their slot winnings) and no one has ever said word one about it.

Literally the only issue ever was a housekeeper at the Golden Nugget on Fremont calling security on me after she saw a gun case in my room. They hard-locked my room and were ready to toss me out until I provided my credentials and explained I was there for a training gig at LVMPD, then it was free-flowing patches and challenge coins...but no comped drinks :(

Las Vegas resorts allow you to take picture and video in the casino now. They have for at least a decade. So long as you're not sitting or standing at a table. Whenever I stay at a casino I bring a scanner for my room and listen to Security. It can actually be quite interesting at times. Unfortunately a lot of casinos have gone encrypted in Las Vegas.

I think walking around with a scanner on the casino floor would raise some suspicion. Worst case scenario they'll ask you to leave or put it in your room ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Which casinos are encrypted? It was my understanding that only the Caesars properties were encrypted.

I have used them for years in the hotel room. A few years ago I picked up a small bluetooth transmitter from Ama Of The Zon and use one ear bud at a time. A small scanner BCD325P2 inside my vest pocket and the transmitter. Listen to hotel security as we walked around or eating in one of the restaurants.
