West Hollywood city council this week approved $250,000 for a feasibility study to analyze the long term possibility of a new consolidated city hall and Sheriff station.
The current Sheriff facility built in 1984, was designed to house a work force of 120, is now home to nearly 200 staff members. Due to overcrowding Sheriff deputies are forced to carry equipment with them and store items in the parking lot. Sheriff department has also identified the need for a juvenile detention facility. West Hollywood mayor called the station “obsolete”, while Sheriff representatives termed the facility in the fast growing city “maxed out”.
While maybe many years away, its nice to see the County looking to build new stuff in cooperation with its city partners. I know LASD has approved plans for a return of the Malibu substation as part of the new Santa Monica College Malibu campus project.
