Pretty interesting stuff. What are they broadcasting? I listen and am not sure. Sounds like old LASD Aero Bureau or SU Dispatch traffic and county fire tones etc. Also heard Century station mentioned. The audio is not bad and its broadcasting non stop. The dispatcher or a recording comes on every so often and says "the following broadcast is for testing of the LA County sheriff and fire communications system, Do Not respond". Any thoughts or more info.

is this in planning for the rics systeem ? It probably is if their testing with digital audio. sounds great in eagle rock near the chp office on a walkie talkie. the scanner is having trouble decoding the p25 and it losses it from now to again.

I have no idea. Sounds like testing out digital audio for their current channels since they are licensed for those emissions on the current 482/483 stuff they have. Hopefully soon we'll all know more. I'm listening on an XTS3000 and it sounds good but not great.

What open sky system? LA RICS isn't open sky. There is nothing printed that says they are starting an open sky system. If anything it'll be like ICIS.

There is a guy i talked to that knows about what the system will be and knows that there is no way to scan it as there is no opensky scanner yet. He is in the radio industry here in la and I am pretty sure he knows what he talking about. He deals with radios for a living.

I am hearing the same thing on 483.8875 162.2

Yeah, I think I was hearing recordings on that one the other day too. It sounded like the Granada Hills fire, or one of the other fires from last year. Also, I heard what sounded like LASO stuff being rebroadcast on 45.94.

In Los Angeles....there are a lot of people who think they know, but don't.

I agree Wayne. The guy is full of it. There is NO WAY it will be open sky since the whole idea of the system is interoperability not to create further trouble. If there is any truth to what was implied it may be digital and encrypted ie: orange county but that is it.

Interesting how some people "know what the system will be" when the RFP hasn't even been released yet.

I notice the simulcast/rebroadcast is still going on 45.94. Now I'm thinking it's LAPD.

I will only say this, the CURRENT intent is to meld LA-RICS with ICIS. icis-monitor, I don't know who your source is, but vegas wouldn't give you odds to bet against mine ;)

Well, Eric over at HRO in burbank seems pretty convinced that rics will be opensky but based on what other people are saying here he doesnt know exactly what hes talking about. i will go talk to him again.

Maybe you should try talking to somebody that's actually a part of LA-RICS over somebody at a radio store ;)

If the RFP hasnt been released then how are they going to stay to the timeframe i the brochure that i saw online?? They have to at least have the ideas for the system in place as their already a year and half into the five year plan. if they havent made a decision by now then i hope they have a overtime budget.
