Lasd UHF (480Mhz) reception

My lasd reception has also been a very mix bag, usually very noisy and choppy, with lots of interference and bleed over, however it's a very mix bag because sometimes the reception is very clear and loud, it's very inconsistent, I've noticed for certain frequencies sound better the farther away I am, for example Dispatch 2 (West Hollywood) sounds fairly clear here in the Eastern SFV but once in scanning within the city of West Hollywood the reception is awful, dispatch 11 is also the same, another frequency that just sounds terrible all the time is the Countywide TSB dispatch,
I have a sds100 and a Bcd325p2 with a larsen nmo150/450/758 and Tram nmo 8079, I've used all in different configurations and also messed with filters on the sds100 and I've really haven't noticed a change in reception quality for lasd, and it's really just for lasd, other analog frequencies sound very good with no issues, even chp sounds better and I'm even not using a prober low band antenna, If any one has any suggestions on how to improve the reception or just an answer on why lasd is reception is like this

Maybe just use the LA-RICS system to monitor them since you have capable scanners to do so 🤷🏼‍♂️

That sounds like an overload issue, too much signal. If you get 5 bars of signal strength then always enable the attenuator for those frequencies to help the scanner handle a high signal level.

The SDS100 has a very wide front end and are sensitive to overload over a wide frequency range that can create all sorts of RF issues but the 325 are a pretty solid scanner and should in comparison perform much better.

You probably have good reception in the East San Fernando valley because one of the two transmitters is on verdugo peak in Glendale. The other transmitter is on Baldwin hills.

I believe LASD's system is still a simulcast system and a particular channel may not be phased in areas that it is not intended to cover so you may hear some fuzzy audio or a bunch of wah wahs & worbles especially outside of the in-phase areas or at the overlaps. Back in the 80s or the 90s they had to disable the CTCSS on the repeater output because they had a difficult time phasing with the PL. I'm not sure what they are doing today.

LASD is still a simulcast system, and most of the radios we have don't handle the multiple signals arriving at different times and slightly out of phase very well.

Something I have found when trying to listen using a CCR: Change the bandwidth setting to WIDE. This also works for LA County Fire.
