Listeners in and around Lawrence County may want to monitor several new frequencies that will or may already be in use.

Lawrence County Fire sent in an application on the 21st to add a new repeater to their existing license, WPFS813. The new frequency pair is 151.0775 output / 155.7225 input and the license is showing it will be put on "Penitentiary Mountain" just southwest of Moulton.
In addition I noticed that in 2004 they added two simplex frequencies that are not identified in the database. They are 155.565 and 155.8425 and may be used as fireground channels.

I also noticed that the Sheriff's Department added another repeater to their license (WNMB355) in 2010. The output is 155.5425 and the input should be 158.7675. The license is showing it at the same location as the old 155.670 repeater.
I am still hearing them on 155.670 (186.2 PL) and haven't heard anything on 155.5425.

If anyone in that area would like to monitor these frequencies and help identify their use that would be great, as I can not reliably receive much from Lawrence County.

The new frequencies for WPFS813 is an additional repeater to allow better communication of the northern fire departments to the 911 dispatch. The 2 simplex frequencies are talk around channels for fireground operations. Not sure about the sheriff department system that much.

Thanks for the information!

Would you happen to know the PL/DPL and channel names for the two fireground frequencies?

PL 218.1 I think. they don't get used very often because several of the fire dept's have private channels that get used. If there were ever a large scale incident then TAC 1 (155.56500) or TAC 2 (154.84000) would get used.

Thank you!

Just to confirm things, is the TAC-2 channel 154.840, or did you mean 155.8425?

I'm glad they are getting a new fire repeater. I can't imagine covering a county that size with just one. In Marion County we have three fire repeaters and still have a few areas with no coverage, so we are having to add a fourth.

Yeah 155.8425. There used to be 2, but from what I can gather when one messed up the fire association didn't have the funds at the time to replace. A big portion of the southern part of the county is Bankhead National Forest too so that could be why only 2 repeaters are used. I have been in the fire dept here in Chalybeate in Lawrence county for just over 5 years and until this year we have only had the one repeater. We are in the center so we will have to utilize the Bankhead repeater for southern
areas in our.coverage and the Courtland repeater for calls in the northern area of our coverage. It's going to take us some getting used to.

Yeah, my department will be in pretty much the same position with Marion County's new repeater in Hackleburg. We will probably end up dedicating a drill night to making sure everyone knows when and where to use which repeater.
