From a bullet point in the quarterly report from the Lawrence, MA IT department, this: "Already got quotes to have the Fire department to move from analog to digital for their two ways radios." Discussed this with the Fire Chief and he is comfortable with going to a P25 radio system. Not sure how soon that this will take place.

LPD recently moved from analog to digital and I believe went encrypted. The real question is, can Fire Alarm's current technology support digital. Time will tell.

Do you have a copy of this quarterly report from the IT department in regards to the FD going to P25
Yes; and in private conservation with the LFD Chief, he is for it. The fact that the LFD is still Hi VHF and most Mutual Aid towns around us are UHF might make fire comms a lot easier if LFD also upgrades their frequency to UHF

The LFD will remain on the Hi VHF frequencies for the present time as a change to UHF would represent a Capital improvement project and require the funding of some 'serious' money to do. The change from analog to digital is necessitated by Verizon changing 'their' wiring system.
This info was garnered from a discussion with the IT director.

Verizon is ending all analog copper telco service. This is likely the change from that to IP based infrastructure.

Just because VZ changed how the Voters and Transmit sites connect, has no bearing on moving to P25, sounds like the typical shell-game to garner funding to go P25, which they should just say, not try and blame VZ

This is simply changing the method that the remote sites get back to fire alarm. Nothing to do with the RF signal over the air changing from analog to digital.
