Like Wichita Falls, the Lawton Police Department will soon be upgrading its radio system
But unlike Wichita Falls -- there is no controversy in Lawton about who will and *will not* be able to listen to police traffic.
That's due to a policy the Lawton Police Department plans to follow once the new radio system goes into effect.
"Currently the plan is, the operational channels the tact team, the criminal investigative channels would be if not always encrypted, encrypted as needed, the normal patrol channels, at this time, will not be encrypted,” says Derrell Morgan of Lawton Emergency Operations.
Lawton Police say its system should be up and running early next year.
