I've got a home in Ortley but I have to admit I've never heard the LBI fire/ems frequencies in use. I'm a fairly straight shot over water to LBI. Are these departments using Ocean TKD system? Can someone confirm use of the VHF frequencies? Roughly what times do the nightly tests occur? Is the signal strength strong? They, especially EMS must be very busy summertime weekends.

They aren’t using the county trunked system but the fire departments do have radios to communicate when needed with other departments on the system,I have a difficult time getting them on my scanners so you probably are too. Everything listed in the DB under Long Beach Island Emergency Services is up to date.

I was down in LBI last summer (end of June) and Ship Bottom had a fire around the Corner from Ron Jon’s. If I remember correctly .. they were dispatched on the county system and then operated on the simplex fire ground

Elias, a few of the frequencies show as Repeater. Shouldn't that make receiving them easier as I'm not trying to pickup lo-power handhelds per se?

Yes I have them programmed and I get mostly static using an indoor antenna. Too far South for me to receive unless there’s a good band opening.... Beach Haven,High Point and Ship Bottom FDs have new 700 MHz radios so I’d like to see them move to the new system or at least have their VHF channels patched into it.

Thx BJSChief, for confirming their use. What I'm wondering is the overall signal strength of these channels. Should I hear these in Ortley, especially the repeater frequencies, just above Seaside?

I visit relatives on Barnegat Light at the northern end of LBI a few days each summer and have heard activity on the channels, but signal strength on my handheld scanners is quite weak, certainly not up to what one would expect when you are in the jurisdiction of those agencies. I would therefore doubt that you could monitor them from Ortley.

I don't have the frequency info handy, but the Warren Grove Bombing range is nearby. You can catch some of the training flights.
