Best bet is to scour Craigslist or Ebay for used Pro-96's. Then keep yours for spare parts.
That was my one complaint about my PRO-96. It was a great radio but I think it would have been more durable if it was made out of paper or glass. If you look funny at one of these radios, something breaks.
The Uniden 296 scanner on the other hand was an absolute tank. I still have it's older cousin the BC250D. It would have been nice to be able to combine them somehow.
