Good question? I was listening to 142.995 MHz, just a few minutes ago and I was hearing a Project 25 signal that was encrypted. I wonder if Bell Fleetnet has picked this freq up as part of their TRS in the Essex County area? This freq use to belong to Amherstburg and LaSalle PDs, but I don't hear them anymore either.

This seems to be the mystery of the day!

Chatter on Scanont suggests they've gone to a new Motorola P25 encrypted system. My last visit to Leamington (in-laws live there) I noticed the police cruisers still seem to be sporting 1/4 wave VHF whips, although a newer style (like those on OPP cruisers).

Another rumour was they switched to a ProVoice system.

Either way it sounds like scannists are SOL in Essex county. :(

Yes it's definitely a P-25 system and encrypted all the time. Looks like everyone in that part of Essex County who is into scanning, is going to really have some worthless paperweights sitting on their desks!

If it's using encryption, you're SOL. There are no scanners on the market that will allow for the decoding of encrypted signals. I know it's illegal in the USA to decode encrypted comms if you are not the intended recipient. I don't know what the laws are in Canada for that.
