Hello. I have a Uniden 785D that is permanently mounted in my truck. This is good because i listen to it mainly when im mobile. What i've been wanting lately is to be able to listen to it in my house. I had an idea yesterday that may or may not be legal. I was thinking that if i hooked on of those personal fm transmitters up to the speaker out of my scanner and then went in my house and tuned my radio to that freq. my problem would be solved. However, i wouldnt want the FCC to come to my door with an arrest warrent for some unknown technicality. :D

So... Basically would it be illegal to use my personal fm transmitter to transmit theh scanner's signal on an FM freq so that i could listen to it in my house on my stereo.

Thanks for your advice!!

Well, i've read some interesting things online since i posted this. First off, i see hundres of websites that rebroadcast police scanner traffic. Most of these are legit websites, so i'm going to assume for the moment that i can. Even if its not, its only going to transmit up to like 30 feet. So wooo.

It's not legal but odds of anyone caring or going as far as complaining to the FCC and then having FCC stake out your place to hear are way too low to worry about.

Under FCC rules, part 15, which all of the low-power FM transmitters operate, as long as you're not causing harmful interference you can re-broadcast anything you want; scanner audio, an AM radio station, even Major League Baseball (without prior written consent)! :)

Not quite.

Part 15 allows you to TRANSMIT, it does not allow you to violate copyrights or BROADCAST content that you are not authorized to BROADCAST.
