Legality of Scanners in Cars.?

It was brought to my attention that while traveling in Michigan with a police scanner you can get a stiff fine($500) if of coarse you get caught. Now, if thats true does it also apply to people who have a amateur licence.

No, it is legal for an amateur radio operator to have a scanner in their vehicle in Michigan

All you have to do is apply for a permit. It is free and you get it back very quick. See the MI Scanner Law posting.

I notice you are from down South in Windsor. I'm not sure if your ham license is valid in the US on it's own. If it is you are all set as long as it is at least a Tech. There may be some permit needed from the FCC to make your license valid. I'm not sure.
I doubt if you can get a MI scanner permit.
