Last year I read a post about the city of Lethbridge signing a contract with MA/Com to build a new digital system. I looked in the database and found only a Motorola TRS for Lethbridge, but found no others. Was this system built?

There may be three million people in Alberta, but:
  • I doubt every last person is a scanner listener;
  • Lethbridge clocks in at about 75,000 people according to the census data.

As the Alberta admin, I can only deal with the data that's submitted to me. I do try to update and explore the systems near me, which is why the Calgary and area systems have been getting updates. I don't know anyone in Lethbridge, nor do I have any reason to go there, so I can only say with certainty that the emergency services were moved off the Motorola system a good while back.

No one has submitted details on any M/A-COM systems in Lethbridge, nor any other data for that area. Perhaps the folks on http://www.scanlethbridge.com/ have some news.

Lastly, feel free to post any contributions you have - that's the way this site gets its information.

MA/Com to build a new digital system

ok they have been on there new system for less then a year now .its a POS they got a M/A-COM edacs provoice system ..

the have nothing bad trouble with the system deadspots poor audio and so on .....

There is on one channel that you can pick up that is 868.5000 analog ops1 (main dispatch) the only problem with this is the rptr is in coaldale.

so if you are in coaldale you can pick them up with no problems ,but if you are lethbridge
there are some parts in the city were you will not pick them up at all ,and some places the will come in great ..

i have most of the new Lcn's but the rest are digital that can not be decoded with any current scanner on the market ....

How on earth does the Lethbridge Police Department dispatch effectively with the repeater being that far away? I have never been to Lethbridge, but I'm sure the terrain is pretty hilly.

Thanks for the info Rob.

Lethbridge new MA/Com

Well they took over the coaldale police and became Lethbridge Regional Police Service . coaldale is about a 7min drive for lethbridge.

they had to use the old rptr that was used on the Motorola Type IIi Hybrid Smartnet system. it was to much money for a new rptr.

the new sys cost about 2.7 or 3.7 million .the got all new handhelds but the got old orions for there cars.

there digtial will not work out in coaldale that why the dispatch is in analog but who knows they might get there new tower then the analog channel will be digital the were out of luck ...................

also the fire/ems have moved to the sys as well the are 100% digital

Lethbridge new M/A Comm

here is some info about the rcmp there looking at a M/A Comm systems....

this is the post from my site :

The RCMP are starting the planning system for the new radio system. The RCMP standard is digital P25 for all system in Canada. Saskatchewan is starting their move to the new system (M/A Comm) but in the lower VHF bandwidth as M/A Comm at this time does not have a P25 trunking system accepted by the RCMP . The cost of moving to the 800 band for province wide system is to large thus the reason for staying in the 140-170 area.

Alberta is also looking into the possibility of creating a province wide public safety network using the RCMP system as the backbone. It will be offered to municipal pds only at this time. Unknown at this time if they will accept but it appears Edmonton (currently using MAcomm) are very interested. Calgary, Medicine Hat are already using the P25 standard so they will be on board. Lethbridge went with Provoice so who knows what they will do bearing their system will have to upgraded again to move to the P25 standard.

With the shootings this past week we just might see a call to complete the move faster, but as the planning stands now , official money will not be available until 2009-2010 to see the system operations. I would be surprised if it is alot sooner due to the complex issue of designing and installing a province wide system but you never know when all the parties get on board.

There is a good chance RCMP will be in the 400 mhz area as RCMP have those frequencies block nation wide. 400 and 800 can live on the same control without any problems as we did at the G8 (Calgary P25 -800, RCMP P25 -400). All the tac frequencies / special events will be encrypted but it appears the main dispatch frequencies at this time will be digital only.
