What scares me is the words Digitized Voice and Possible Encryption....please tell me that the FD does not think it has to go encrypted Pro-voice??? Geez...anyway, Unitcharlie and others: thought you might find this interesting....

If they even go UN-ecrypted digital with EDACS, I don't think any of the current line-up of scanners will work. Their current EDACS set-up is barely 5 years old and the FD spent a fortune getting HTs for all their people, not to mention re-doing all their vehicles. It would be a terrible waste of taxpayer money if the current system is totally trashed after only 5 years. Just my 2-cents worth as a taxpayer in this city!

My point exactly Tom...I sure hope that maybe this is a "worse case plan" and that maybe all they will do is add analog freqs...I ain't gonna be a happy camper if they go Pro-Voice :(

I spoke to someone today who should know what is happening and he says that the system will not be digital. They are trying to get better coverage in the outlying areas, especially along the KY River, where there is currently no coverage. There will be three distinct sites when completed(2 new ones on TV towers East and South of town). This will fill in gaps in low lying areas along the River and outlying parts of the county.

If they do go ProVoice digital, you can say bye-bye FD scanning in this city/county.

a cursory look.... three sites, two new ones... mostly new freqs, 16 total....no duplicate freqs on any of the sites.... word is the new sites won't be up until late next month.... so we will have a few days to figure everything out before they make the change.... still trying to find out what happens to the other system.... that could mean at least two banks for lexington....

:?: The changes to the Lexington EDACS system may be starting. Around 10 this morning the FD said the system was going "off line". It is still up, but my scanner (Pro-92) is not working properly. Whenever, Channel 2 is used, it won't stop beeping after key-up. Dispatcher seems very low in audio, too. May be some temporary maintenence, but big changes are definitely coming soon... :?:

Let me know what you find out. I am too busy at work to play with my scanner right now. Tonight, I will look at it when I get home. By the way, seems like most of the transmissions are on channels 1 to 6 now and Channel 2 has continuous beeps after transmissions. At least that's what my Pro-92 is doing. I don't seem to be missing anything. Except for the annoying beeps on Ch 2, all would seem normal. Probably changed the frequency order---or something.

TOM I am not hearing the beeps.... seems like business as usual except for the low audio levels.... will have to program these into my 97 and see what I get.... remember they have a new license for this system....and it is supposed to be on line near the end of April!

I am at work right now and won't be able to leave until 9pm tonight but will post my results with my Pro96/Pro95 combo later this evening...looks like time to update all my frequency files! :D

 I am only hearing traffic on Ch 1-6 (Old UK system frequencies-pre-2000). The 856.9375 thru 860.9375 frequencies (Chs 6 thru 11) in the EDACS system are not active (original FD frequencies added to UK system in 2000). For some reason, Ch 2 always beeps and the others don't. The contral channel right now is on Ch 4 (860.2625).

Wish I had my Pro-94 here at the office. It is easy to find stuff with that scanner. The Pro-92 is clunky to manually program...

 Let us know what you find. At home, my Pro-94 is acting OK on the system, but only the first six frequencies seem to be active (Ch 1 thru 6) as I noted earlier today. For some reason, my Pro-2052 is hanging up on channel 2 (with beeps) just like my Pro-92 was at the office. My Pro-92 is useless here at my house for the system (not sensitive enough), but at work, it is OK as I am only a mile from the UK site at the office.

I plugged all the new frequencies listed at the top of this thread... None of them were active this evening on my Pro-94. From looking at all the frequencies involved in this, it looks like the fire department is breaking away from the UK group. The only frequencies active after 10 AM Wednesday were Channels 1 thru 6 -- All of which were the original frequencies from the UK system (pre-2000). All the XXX.9375 frequencies are not now being used. The .9375 frequencies were part of the FDs original allocation, along with the soon to be used XXX.4375 frequencies. A few new ones are being added as well. So, if I were guessing, the original system of 6 frequencies at UK will revert back to UK. None of the first 6 frequencies in the current system (Ch 1 thru 6 -- UKs original system 01-857.2625, 02-858.2625, 03-859.2625, 04-860.2625, 05-856.2625 and 06-855.2125) are listed as part of the new FD set-up.

Does this make any sense :?: :?: :?: :?:

They are testing on all the new FD frequencies this morning with EDACS beeps, carriers and control channel noise.... Signals are not very strong on Nicholasville Road (near Central Baptist Hospital). Probably are testing with low power before lighting up the amplifiers...

Anyone else observing this?

This afternoon, they are patching some comms to the news frequencies. I have both my Pro-92 and 94 here and the system has definitely been changed, but I don't think they are done with it yet. The new frequencies seem to be much stronger, signal wise, than they were this morning when all I heard were EDACS beeps and control channel noises on the new frequencies. This afternoon, I have heard Lextran and the FD on the new set-up at times, but I don't think they are using it yet. It seems to just be patched in for testing right now. I, too, have to work during the day, so I can't spend the time with it I would like. Last night, the new frequencies were quiet...
