I live here in lexington sc. I was wondering what the freqs and IDs are for the sheriffs dept here. I entered all the codes i have found yet im not picking them up. I was wondering if they changed freqs or something. Maybe user error as well Thanks

Lexington County Sherriff's Department is fully encrypted. You will hear the other municipalities such as Irmo and West Columbia but not LCSO. EMS/Fire also run in the clear.

According to another post in the Radio Shack Scanners forum, he is using a Pro 2051 meaning he cannot receive digital on Palmetto 800.

No scanner can or ever will be able to pick up the Lexington SO since they are encrypted. You can pick up the Lexington PD on 460.200 though.

Lexington EMS is planning on going digital and silent disptach in the next couple of months.

Ok thanks for all the help. I was hoping that i could hear them as i live nearby the jail. Yeah i have the pr0-2051. had it for a week so far and love it. You all know of any other good freqs that are fun to monitor? thanks for all the replies.

I'm just guessing, but silent dispatch could be sending the info to MDTs and/or Alpfa pagers. With the MDTs, they could ackowledge the call, but getting padged (text or voice) would still require a way to ackowledge the call.

Not totally sure how it is going to work but the county trucks are going to have PC's in them that get the call and probably use pagers to alert the units of the call. Also not sure how they are going to confirm to County Dispatch that they are enroute or have received the call. I'll assume they will still have to verbally contact county when arriving on scene, departing, arrived at ER etc. But the money is in place (federal government grant from what I was told) for this system & they certainly are leaning toward that system.

The private ambulance companies like Gold Cross, AMR, MobileCare and volunteer rescue squads like Batesburg-Leesville Rescue personnel (231,232,233,239) will probably still be dispatched the current way. The county also want to go digital in the near future. Which means you'll need a digital scanner to get their transmissions.

It's not written in stone but that is what I was told at a meeting.

I personally hope it doesn't happen.

if it is like richland county mdt's the ems units should be able to use the mdt to change themselves from available to enroute, and arrived at scene, and then enroute to hospital, which hospital and then their code/signal....no kind of verbal contact needed, except for special situations...

Caesar, you could very well be right. I haven't listened to Richland EMS in a while but the only tower I can pick up that carries them was the Little Mountain tower,

Have they switched to that system yet?

As mentioned above, it sounds like the EMS units are going to something similar my PD is trying. The "silent dispatch" is basically a CAD system linked to MDT's(laptops). Units are capable of receiving calls, acknowledging enroute, checking on scene, and clearing via laptop. If the system is set up right, it should work.

Our problem is with the nearest transmitter site for the statewide MDT system being a few miles and a ridge or two from our city. By the end of the shift, the display on the MDT's will be 3 1/2 to 4 hrs. behind because of the transmitting/receiving issues.

Is it legal to have a scanner in your car in SC? I looked everywhere and couldnt find a answer.

I am not aware of any reason that you can't have a monitoring device in a vehicle unless, that is, you are committing an illegal act.

Here in SC the Hwy Patrolmen, Sheriff Ofcrs, Police Ofcrs use scanners themselfs. I know because I'm the one who usually programs them. I have a BC-796 and a Regency 1600 with a TF-2 tone finder on top of my dash on F-150 truck. 49 years of monitoring and not one problem. Larry

Richland County EMS does not have computers in their trucks yet, however they are also getting them soon. They will be used to receive all information needed rather than having to copy it over the radio from dispatch. It will also be used for directions rather than having to use a map book.

RCEMS uses radio communication to inform dispatch when they're on scene, leaving scene, and out of the unit wherever. Even when they recieve these computers, I believe they will still need to use the radios for such communication but most private information such as the address and emergency situation will be kept to the computer.

Use the Harbison Tower (860.48750), the Richland Simulcast (868.53750) and the Palmetto Center Tower (860.33750) - those 3 should get you reception no matter where you live, and I would HOPE with the new Richland Simulcast it gets you what you need.

I programed those in "(860.48750), the Richland Simulcast (868.53750) and the Palmetto Center Tower (860.33750) " All i get is static. Like i dont have it trunking? Are they digital or something? I only had 868.53750 in my scanner. I have all the IDs that i could fit into mine. I still get alot of IDs that come on and i dont hear anything. Or i hear one side of the conversation. I have reset my scanner about 5 times today and redid EVERYTHING..............
Its driving me crazy. Thats why when i seen those two freqs i set those up hoping that was my problem yet they dont work for me. Does anyone have any ideas? Before i give up all together. lol

Oh yeah and i have all the other freqs for my area in it also. I have used about every freq i could find for my area. still not getting them though. I was wondering why in the database it shows the freq then a input freq? What am i missing here...............................
