Life span of backlight?

I've got a Pro-97 and was just curious on the average life of the backlight. I'm sure it has to last a very long time. The only reason I'm asking is I might leave it on all the time and use my webcam to record the display for my live feed. Just curious.

I'll stick my neck out and guess 10,000 hours if it is on 24/7.

I've had my Pro-92 with the back light on for 2-3 years and it still works.

Some LEDs have a lifetime spec of 100,000 hours. The higher power leds, 1W or more, are rated for 10,000 hours.

I'm not sure what the backlight rating is on your Pro-97 (or my Pro-96); however, my two GPS units (Garmin GPS Map 76CS and C340) both have backlight ratings of 100,000 hours (converts to 11.41 years of continuous use). I would say the radio shack scanners have near comparable ratings. 10,000 hours would be a little light IMO because that would only be 1.14 years.
