is the bc785d a good radio for $185.00
Welcome to RR. If it includes the BCi 25D Digital Card, it is a good price. I suspect it does not for that price. If not, and you don't think you will need digital in your area for 2 years or more, then it is a decent price. Be aware that you will find it very difficult to get the digital card if you need it later. For Otherwise, a very solid performer, with Alpha Tags and PL/DPL. There is the caution that it does not support Rebanding - The RadioReference Wiki . You will have to ask in your state forum whether this could be an issue. If you identify your city and state, you may get some opinions here. FYI, for $35 more, you can get the state of art non-digital scanner with a lot more capability plus rebanding: http://wiki.radioreference.com/index.php/BCT15

miketrucker79, keep in mind that the BC785D will only decode digital P25 Motorola 3600baud trunk systems, not 9600 baud true P25 systems, and as mentioned can not be re-banded. This is a one (or two) of the reasons the BC796D replaced the 785 model.
