I just recentley talked to a vol. firefighter and she told me that all departments in Limestone county are changing radio systems. She told me that they will not be able to use their old vhf radios. Also she told me that Fema is requiring them to change and must have 14 national frequencies in their radios. I looked on the fcc web site and found 2 new Frequencies for Mexia Police Department 155.5425 and 158.9475 which is in use now and two for Limestone County S.O. 153.7475 and 155.9325 wich is not in use yet. I was woundering if anyone knows how to get all the new frequencies when they come in too use and the PL Tones and if possible channel order.

Limestone Co.Fire

They may be switching to ITAC. Look in the RRDB for Texas Inter-Operability Frequencies.
They are Narrow Band VHF (5) Channels and Narrowband UHF (4) Channels. Mexia Police and Fire have Plans to impliment UHF sometime soon. Limestone Sheriff want to go digital VHF so there is a stand-off between County agencies as to what will actually happen.

Limestone County needs a big update on communications. Esp. on their north and south tower fire repeaters, they are horrible. I was told they where talking about going to digital a while back. I figured they would go to a trunking system before going to digital. I checked the RRD and i already hae all of thoes frequencies even some that are not on there like the Mexia ISD Police Department 463.8750 and other school frequencies. If they go digital which is the best mobile / base scanner to get and i also saw one one forum some new scanners allow you to put in pl codes if so which scanner is this? I currentley have a PRO-95 but want to get a mobile / base digital scanner.

I have been told the Pro-96 hase a better Digital quality than the Uniden Digital scanners. I don't know alot on that topic. but you do have a variety of choices. the Pro-96/2096, and the 2 or 3 Uniden radios. I personally am a Uniden fan. Uniden Radio's track EDACS systems far better than R/S. I-CALL and Wide area systems are accessable on Uniden where as, they are not on R/S. a Radio shack scanner can't track the TXU system. the LCD screen is tiny and it dosn't allow you to toggle through the Trunk banks and Talk groups like a Uniden radio. However, the Radio Shacks are a bit less pricy and easier to get for immediate use. The Radio Shack in Bellmead (84 & 35 - Waco) Have 6 in stock currantly.

I dont like the small disp on the raido shack scanners and i was thinking about buying a Uniden Digital scanner. I went to Radioshack here in Mexia but they only have they tripple tunking scanner in stock I wanted to look at the R/S digital. I want a desktop scanner and I am going to buy the Discone atenna to mount on my roof and i was wounder if the Diamond or R/S discone atenna is better cost wise. Also is there any information when then Mexia and police fire will go to the vhf and uhf system or are they going to wait on what Limesone S/O wants to do?

Dimond is a good antenna, I too am partial to the BIG display of the Uniden Radio's. But, the Digital Processer in the R/S is supposed to be stronger and more reliable than the Uniden's. (Strictly hear-say)
Mexia will probably wait to see what LCSO is going to do before jumping on anything particular. best suggestion is to watch the FCC database for new public safety licenses in the 7.5Khz Narrowband VHF spectrum, when you start seeing new licenses pop up start anticipating new changes.
