Fellow Scanner friends looks like Lincoln County is having some issues and they are very strict and cracking down on scanners. About three months ago I received a shocking knock at my door from the sheriffs department detectives or dics as they are called by the street patrol. They were extremely rude stating that the airwaves of their sheriffs, ems, and fire bands were being highjacked by someone illegaling transmitting. They advised me this is an act of terrior and massive charges would be filed on the person. I advised the DICS that I knew it was an act of terrior and I only have scanners which are used for monitoring NOT transmitting, and I have NEVER owned or messed with any transmitters. The DICS response back to me and i am sorry for the language but i am quoting them; "Stop fu**ing around we know you have 2way radios." By this time I was hot and said you guys must have nothing better to do then harrass people hell you done shot two kids for putting there truck in park (a different news story that shocked the county) They were not too happy with that and said to me in a very rude matter, 'Look the FCC is on the case and they have the transmissions pin-pointed to your street this house and i looked at them and said well I use to work as an on air radio dj and it is pretty simple rule of thumb you can only triangle a stationary transmission not a moving one. So someone was standing in front of my house or in my yard transmitting when i was not home. After that they demand there way into my house to look for two way radios which there were none to begin with so they found none. Then not even a week later they arrest somone who was 18 who stole a firefighters two radio and was using it to talk on. Now mind you the DICS told me massive charges would be filed right. This guy got away with an act of terrior and 2000 fine. Sounds like a poor job of justice. Prior to the DICS visiting my house and the arrest i never once heard an illegal transmission once which lead me to believe the Sheriffs Department was trying to look busy and falsy charge people. But here is the kicker the illegal transmissions are still happening on the bands, and I am actually hearing them now. Anyone have any ideas of how these are happening or what could be causing this? Also since they arrested someone for it I never once got we are sorry sir or anything from the sheriffs department since their department was able to prove it was not my voice on the transmissions they acted like they never asked me about or tore my scanner station up and left me to reset it up.

And for all you Missouri portable scanner users when you come into or through Lincoln County make sure they are OFF in your car/truck and if possible unhook them and put them in your trunk or somewhere in the car/truck because even with them in the off position they will still harrass you if you are stopped and they see it or if you parked somewhere and they walk by and see it.

Sorry to be so blunt, but that was your fault for not knowing your rights and so freely surrender them.

Never, ever let anyone into your house without a search warrant.

I live too far south of your area to really hear it well. Sometimes I can get a good signal from St. Louis and when I do it is interesting. What kind of radio traffic is there? Is it someone playing games, making animal noises or something? Sorry to hear they are on a rampage up there. Goos luck.

When they first so called started. According to the department it was voice, and official sounding which was messing up officers and dispatchers because they thought it was official business. But as much as I monitior the scanner you could easliy pick out a fake and dispatch should be able to as well, but nothing was ever heard by myself. Now that they have took the stolen radio back into the departments hands and charged that person they claimed it stopped. However now you hear animal sounds like you stated scanman everyonce in awhile.

Scanman I was wondering if you are still able to hear the sheriff on 155.670 or 154.710 because for about a week now they are deader then a doornail on radio traffic. I have tried doing searches on my scanner to see if they finally gave up on it and just changed the frequencies but I am coming up with nothing.

If you can post back and let me know your thoughts on this and if you can still hear them.

Thank you.

Does Lincoln county have scanner laws on the books? As far as I know they don't.

What part of the county are you referring to?

I agree with the earlier post, never leave any officer in your house without a warrant. Unless you want them in there.

As far as the shooting of the two men. That was a tragedy that could have been prevented if the men would have stopped right away. If the officer over reacted or not will be decided in a court of law. It isn't exactly the easiest job at times.

I hear Lincoln County on 153.290 (141.3) & 155.670 (173.8) Now, saying that I have not had the chance in the last few months to actually monitor them. Life has been very busy and I am actually having scanning withdrawls. I really want to get back to scanning the way I did and have fun with it but...oh well. Even though I get two freq for them, each channel seems to be different in power or clarity. One is much stronger than the other. And here is St. Louis it is sometimes hard to get a good signal.

What are the major fire freqs for up there? Is there one main freq or do the smaller departments (Winfield/Foley) have their own?

Any other questions give me a holler.

The entire Lincoln County Fire dispatch and input is on one frequency reguardless of what FCC files say. LOL I guess they do there own thing up here. :) But as for fire all transmissions for every fire department is 154.145 for both sides of the chat.

This frequency is a 2-sided one so you can hear both however as with most of these frequencies the dispatch center has a ton more juice then the trucks so you will probably only be able to hear dispatch only if that if you are outside of the county like yourself. But that is the code and good luck.
