I have the Linden PD freq (453.275) programmed into my scanner. At times I hear the communications just fine, other times I hear a buzzing/grinding noise that almost sounds like the comms are being encrypted. Does Linden encrypt any of their communications?

I've been hearing the same thing. It almost sounds like interference coming from somewhere (perhaps within their own radio equipment/repeater). That grinding noise you're describing sounds very unique compared to the sound normally associated with encryption. Another reason why I doubt it's encryption is that sometimes I hear it cut in, directly in the middle of an officer speaking. I've even heard the dispatch ask for the officer to repeat their message when that sound occurs.

Hey guys, what you're hearing is in fact Yonkers pd channel 2 which is P-15 digital. If you go to the Westchester Co. database you'll find that freq there as well as the other ones they use. But yes, Linden does use this freq also but in analog. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. I knew it couldn't be Linden considering it cuts in the middle of their conversations. I guess this is a relatively new radio system used by Yonkers PD considering this only started happening this past month or so. However, also very annoying if you're trying to monitor Linden without PL capability. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I would imagine one wouldn't hear this interference if they had a PL capable scanner.

Linden PD Dispatch

Well folks, there is a large incident occuring right now in Linden, OEM is on the scene, and incident command stated "these radios are garbage, call radio repair about it." HQ indicated that they were there yesterday and today and that "there's nothing they can do about it!" The response was "well someone's going to get hurt out here over this." All heard over the freq of 453.275 PL 114.8. And yes, I hear the interference even with a BC296D scanner w/ the PL enabled, so it's within their system. I don't think it's Yonkers NY PD system causing the interference, as the sound is not the same as raw digital. Remember, the current system is probably about 15-25 years old, so maybe an upgrade to the County TRS or a new P25 system should be recommended?

Very interesting. I'm using a Pro-92 which is PL capable, but I don't have the PL code programmed in. From what you're saying I guess it doesn't matter anyway. I also doubt it is Yonkers because the interference seems to be coming in too strong. I can pick up the Yonkers FD UHF freq here in Jersey City, but it comes in fairly weak.

I'm listening right now and it looks like everything is back on channel 1. All I'm hearing on 463.900 is some guy speaking a foreign language. But I'm still hearing the same static/interference on channel 1 so the problem is definitely not fixed yet.

They should've stayed on Ch. 2 until the problem is cleared up. I'm sure that guy speaking in a foreign language is some taxi driver (probably not even licensed).

I heard them back on channel 1 last night too, after about an hour I locked them out, couldn't handle the noise anymore.

Linden Ch.2

The RR database has 123.0 as the PL for Ch. 2 (463.900)

I have been getting the PD on Ch. 2 with PL 82.5. Is 123.0 for EMS (or something else) or is the database wrong. Thanks.

It's seems that they gave up on channel 1 last night after an officer was shot and had a hard time getting help. At about 6 tonite they said channel 1 was down again. Luckly the officer's injuries were not serious, maybe now they will get it fixed!

The PL for Ch. 2 was 123.0 Hz a couple years ago, at least. They probably changed it.

Yeah, channel2 is 82.5 and they're still on it. FWIW there definitely is another strong carrier.
