not sure if its just me, every post on my browser (I.E. 6.0) has certain works hyperlinked... heres a few (credit, scanner, etc). wheres Lindsay? maybe he knows why RR is doing this.

Go to http://www.lavasoftusa.com and download Ad-aware.

After you install it, UPDATE the software to get the latest definitions before you scan your computer. Whatever it finds, delete. It is all bad.

Next, click on Tools > Internet Options > click on the last tab that says "Advanced". Down in the lower right-hand side click on the button that says "Restore Defaults".

DO NOT CLICK OKAY.

Click on the next tab to the left that says "Programs" and click on the button that says "Reset Web Settings" and click on "Yes" in the new window that opened up.

NOW CLICK OKAY.

Cycle the power on your computer and everything should be good to go. Be sure to run Ad-aware on a regular basis.

Yes, that is an option.

IMHO, he still should get rid of any ad/spyware first because some of that stuff does not care if you use IE or not in order to run after it is already installed.

Naw, they let you have a free version. The kicker to it is that it scans "after the fact". If you want to prevent the contamination in the first place, that is the one that you have to pay for.

Spybot is a good application, but I have found its interface to lack the intuitiveness that is needed for a newbie to get up to speed quickly and use it correctly.

Ad-aware gives you easy buttons to click on and it does the rest.

Make sure you click the "immunize" button on SpyBot. It currently protects against 1,994 bad products from even getting into your browser.

When the installed base is less than 5% of all personal computers (or so I've read), it isn't worth the cracker's efforts. If Mac numbers ever become anything other than insignificant (like the computer itself), then there will be attacks on them.

The fact that attacks occur does not guarantee that they will succeed. The "operating systems" spawned by Billy Gates are the most insecure ever devised. Not all systems are so vulnerable.

The operating system I use is called OpenVMS. An entire convention of hackers (Defcon 4 or something like that) tried to attack a VMS system once and were totally unable to touch it.

After hammering at it for four or five days (the system was a workstation brought to the convention specifically to be attacked), these hardcore hackers gave up and conceded it was unhackable.

Yes, hackers hit billyboxes because there are so many, but also because they are such an easy target.

My post was poorly worded; I meant that since they have been around so long and never sold like PC's not many MAC ATTACKS have occurred; so I agree with you--

I used to get a kick out of firing up the MAC lovers since they are generally so vociferous in defending their Beloveds--Even more so than MOTO guys are :wink:

I was never rich enough to buy one so I got hooked on PC's instead...
