Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all,
Have a weird problem with my XTS 5000 VHF radio. I have vertical lines going through the display on my radio. However, when I turn my radio after it has been turned off for a while the lines are gone and then after a few minutes they show up again. A picture is attached of what I am experiencing. Does anybody have any ideas on how to rectify this.

Here and there
Either display is going out, flex is loose or not seated proper.

If the display always had issues then could be someone put a 7/800 lcd display in it.

Interesting. When I have had display problems, they have replaced the whole front. This was done on a pre-paid maintenance contract, so no reason to pad the parts involved.
You sure you're thinking of the XTS 5000? The display module is very easily replaceable. It sits right on top of the VOCON inside a rubber retainer, pops right off with no effort at all.

Yes, I am certain. We only had 5000s, until we started getting APX radios.

Very strange. The module was readily available for around $120 direct from Motorola, and it would've been much easier to simply replace the module alone than "the whole front"...whatever that even means. Oh well, ancient history I suppose.

None of the XTS radios should require "the whole front" to be replaced. APX is a different story. Alas, I digress.

"Front Panel" was replaced, and the radio had all new face, as there had been a couple dings in it, when submitted for repair.
