Considering getting my ticket and starting in the 2m, wanted to listen for a bit 1st and see what kinda local traffic is around. Using the stock rubby ducky doesnt get much, what kind of [cheap] antenna should i get to help the scanner pick up more in this range?

(if wrong forum, i beg forgiveness)

Thanks~!!!@!

It is, you're forgiven, but I'll wait until it's moved before I answer. MODZ?

That was quick, DAYUM! First of all antennas and coax don't come cheap but you can economize by shopping around. Since you're using a scanner and likely listening to more than 2M hams a good starting point is a discone, LMR400 coax, a 10' steel TV antenna mast and whatever brackets you need where you choose to mount it. Should you decide to get your license you may transmit on 2M and 70cM with a discone. So where do you find these things? Google is your friend for on line shopping.
