My husband recently starting working with the Westminster City Police department in Carroll County Maryland. I had been listening to the radio on the internet but that includes so many frequencies that I barely hear him. I bought my own scanner so that I would be able to focus my listening to only his department but I can't seem to figure out how to do that.

Is there a way to single out a department? I have a radio shack pro 90 trunk tracker (that I only sort of know how to use) I looked up the frequencies in my area and have been able to program them into my scanner. But when scanning the 14 different channels I have only caught his voice once and didn't catch which one it was. I am hoping there is an easier way to do this than listening to each individual frequency and trying to rule them out one by one.

try these

2992 0bb A West PD Disp Westminster City Police Dispatch Law Dispatch
4304 10d A West PD Tac2 Westminster City Police Tactical 2 Law Tac
4336 10f A West PD Tac3 Westminster City Police Tactical 3

2992 4304 and 4336 are the talk group numbers you would want.
but it sounds like you are using conventional scanning to hear a trunked system.
this would be a good reason to buy a new trunk tracker.

I tried putting in the talk group numbers but I might be doing it wrong. I am not really sure. However when I was in the trunk mode and have it scan it picks up nothing. it just says scan on the screen. I am hoping that this is my error and not the scanners inability to work on this system.

The only reason I assumed that this scanner would work is that on the online feed it shows that this scanner is being used by the broadcaster:

System Name: Carroll County Public Safety

Location: Westminster, MD

County: Carroll

System Type: Motorola Type II Smartnet System

Voice: Analog

System ID 8C00

New Frequencies as of 12 Jan 2013:

Frequencies: 851.16250, 852.13750, 852.18750, 852.22500, 852.33750, 852.38750, 852.42500, 852.45000, 852.47500, 852.50000, 852.58750, 852.93750, 853.3250, 853.33750

The following talk groups are included in this feed:

1616 Fire Dispatch

1648 Fire Response

1680 Emergency 1

1712 Emergency 4

2672 Sheriff Central Dispatch

2992 Westminster City Police Dispatch

4368 Hampstead Police

4400 Manchester Police

4432 Sykesville Police

4464 Taneytown Police

3024 Maryland State Police-Westminster Barrack Dispatch

This feed is provided using a Radio Shack PRO-90 Trunk Tracker scanner.

I am really hoping that I don't need a different scanner. Especially since I have already spent money on this one.

A new scanner is probably the best option long term.
