What freq's seem to be most active when listening to DPs in Austin? I rarely hear anything. You would think at least hearing the capitol police? IO know the station and dispatch center is here. Why? why?

Check the database the whole bandplan by region is there and also Capitol detail channels....Think everything in the Austin area is now P25 like most of the DPS in the state is now.

My question wasn't what are the freq's it was what freqs seem to be most active when others are listening to them. I have all those programmed it, obviously, I just never hear anything.

You can hear DPS Austin every day, all day long on 155.4675. They are P25 and can be heard region wide. The Capitol operations are very short range and can be heard on 700mhz tower of the Austin/Travis county system, but you have to be downtown or you won't hear a thing.

Russel, do they still use any of these?
154.0400
155.2500
155.4450
158.7300
460.0750
460.1250

I'm too far away to hear anything and haven't been to Austin in over 20 years.

Went to Austin yesterday and Russel is correct, troopers talking away on 155.4675 P25, nd5y as far as i know those freq. you listed are part of the old analog bandplan when a region goes P25 those usually fall silent.

I'm too far away to hear anything and haven't been to Austin in over 20 years.

155.04 is licensed in four locations: Austin, Glen Rose, Amarillo and Bay City "to respond to incidents and accidents involving radiation and contamination." I have never heard any comms on this freq.

155.25 I'll have to plug this one in, I've never tried to monitor it.

155.445 Is used DPS San Antonio and can be heard occasionally in Austin. On the other hand 159.21 from SAT can easily be heard on a handheld.

158.73 I hear frequent bursts on this freq, but nothing I can latch on to. I suspect these guys might operate on A/TC system when in Austin.

460.075 and 460.125 I haven't heard anything on these channels in three years. I'm a little far north and should probably take a little trip downtown, but these Capitol channels are most certainly on the Austin/Travis County system now. There are some listings for similar uses under that system.
