Listening to feeds - am I missing something?

I have tried to listen to several feeds which I know would be busy (NYPD, CHP, etc.) and have heard nothing. My volume is up and I am listening using the web player. I am using Firefox as my browser on an XP Pro desktop. when the scrolling description pauses, does that mean that a transmission is occurring? If so, I am not hearing them. I'm going to try (gasp) Internet Explorer and see if that works.

Might be a brower issue, or a sound issue. Try ScannerLive, that's independent. ScannerLive

Hmmm. I just tried IE and it works. Gotta figure this one out because I hate IE with a passion. Have to check some settings, but Firefox should be the latest version.
